Thrilling. Intriguing. On the edge of my seat. Those are the words that came to mind while watching the series premiere of NBC’s Blindspot.
The show wastes no time pulling viewers into the mystery: a woman (Jaimie Alexander) is discovered zipped inside a duffel bag in the middle of Times Square, her body covered in tattoos—including the name of FBI Agent Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) etched across her back. Who is she? And why does her body hold clues to future crimes?
Dubbed “Jane Doe,” she quickly learns that her memory has been erased by a powerful drug, leaving her past a blank slate. But her tattoos begin to unlock pieces of a much bigger puzzle. One clue leads the FBI to a terrorist planning an attack on the Statue of Liberty, giving us an early taste of the high-stakes cases the series will tackle.
What surprised me most was how quickly Jane stepped into the action. Even though Weller doubted she was ready to be in the field, her instincts proved otherwise, especially in the fight sequences. We also get haunting glimpses of her past—training with weapons, and the shadowy man who drugged her before leaving her to be found. Those flashes ask the big question at the heart of the show: Who was Jane Doe, and what was she hiding?
Performance-wise, Alexander nails the balance of vulnerability and strength. Her fight scenes are sharp, but it’s her ability to play confusion, fear, and determination all at once that makes Jane instantly compelling. Stapleton also delivers as Weller, grounding the pilot with intensity and just enough empathy to make their partnership believable.
Blindspot feels like a mix of The Blacklist and Jason Bourne—a propulsive mystery paired with action-driven storytelling. The premiere set a strong foundation, and I’m already eager to see how deep Jane’s secrets go. Overall, I give the premiere a 9/10
