The Capture Season 1

If you’re looking for a gripping original series to binge on Peacock, look no further than The Capture. This British crime thriller is as unsettling as it is addictive and it might just make you question everything you believe about surveillance, truth, and justice.

Season 1 introduces us to Shaun Emery (Callum Turner), a former U.K. Special Forces soldier freshly acquitted of a war crime in Afghanistan. But his freedom doesn’t last long—he’s quickly accused of kidnapping and murdering his lawyer, with CCTV footage painting him as guilty beyond doubt. The only problem? Shaun insists it isn’t him.

Enter DI Rachel Carey (Holliday Grainger), newly fast-tracked into the homicide and serious crime unit. As she digs deeper, Rachel uncovers a conspiracy that’s as terrifying as it is believable, where video evidence may not be as trustworthy as we think. The more she learns, the blurrier the line between truth and fabrication becomes, leading to a season finale that sticks with you long after the credits roll.

What makes The Capture shine is its razor-sharp writing and compelling performances. Grainger anchors the series with a nuanced portrayal of Carey ambitious yet vulnerable, sharp but constantly thrown off-balance by the shifting ground beneath her. Turner is equally magnetic, keeping viewers wavering between sympathy and suspicion with every scene. Add in heavyweight performances from Ron Perlman and Famke Janssen, and the show feels even more layered and tense.

I first stumbled across the trailer last year and couldn’t wait to dive in. Once it hit Peacock, I devoured all six episodes in a single day. The mix of character drama, ethical dilemmas, and “is this really possible?” chills make it almost impossible to stop watching. While Shaun’s story reaches a conclusion, the world of The Capture feels wide open, and I can’t wait to see where Season 2 takes DI Carey.

Overall, The Capture Season 1 earns a 9.5/10 from me, tense, intelligent, and addictive television at its finest.
