Forty years of Casualty calls for a celebration, but the BBC is marking the milestone by putting Holby’s medical team through one of its biggest disasters yet.
The BBC has released an extended trailer for the Casualty 40th anniversary special, “Life Begins at 40,” teasing a catastrophic explosion that sends shockwaves through St. James’ Hospital and leaves the Wyvern Valley in chaos. The special will air as a dramatic double-bill on Saturday, September 5, on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
The trailer shows a massive explosion on a bridge sending a fireball into the sky, with ash raining down around Holby City Hospital. Consultant Dylan Keogh (William Beck) and staff nurse Cam Mickelthwaite (Barney Walsh) quickly realize the scale of the disaster, while clinical nurse manager Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill) declares a major incident.
As casualties pour in, the emergency department is pushed to its limits. Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) and Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) find themselves racing to save a patient, while Dylan faces a deeply personal crisis of his own.
The anniversary comes as Casualty enters a new production era, with shorter, more sustainable seasonal blocks planned for future episodes.
