A shocking twist in Episode 5 pushes the investigation into dangerous new territory.
Gone keeps viewers guessing in its fifth episode, as the investigation into Sarah Polly’s murder takes yet another sharp turn. With Michael getting more isolated and a surprising new suspect popping up, the mystery just keeps getting messier.
Things go from bad to worse for Michael when Alana comes home with Paul and walks in on her dad in a heated confrontation with Annie’s husband, DI Craig Stanhope. Seeing Michael with his hands around Craig’s neck only makes him look more suspicious, especially since Sarah was strangled.
At the same time, Michael is becoming more and more cut off as tensions at the school keep rising, while Paul continues to manipulate Alana into doubting her relationship with her father. The already broken family dynamic takes another hit when Alana changes her statement to the police.
Annie, meanwhile, isn’t backing down. After being pulled off her Family Liaison Officer role and stuck behind a desk, she keeps digging into Sarah’s murder on her own. Her investigation leads her to a pretty convincing new suspect: Dylan Sedgwick, whose anger over his father Stephen’s affair with Sarah gives him a clear motive and puts him right in the police’s crosshairs.
The episode does a solid job of shifting suspicion around without revealing too much, setting things up nicely for what should be a really interesting finale. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.
