Ghosts Review: “Halloween 6: The Mirror” — A Family Reunion and a Shocking Return

A trapped sister, a Halloween switcheroo, and Pete’s shocking return make this Ghosts special a surprise-packed celebration.

The ghosts return for a Halloween celebration filled with supernatural chaos, family drama, and an unexpected reunion. This entertaining two-part special gives Hetty some welcome character development while delivering a major twist involving Pete that could transform life at Woodstone.

With Sam in Australia working on the film adaptation of her screenplay, Polar Opposites, Jay receives extra help around the mansion. Kyle (Ben Feldman) takes on a larger role, managing the ghosts while Bela hosts an unconventional Halloween party. The change of pace is fun, but the real excitement comes from the supernatural trouble unfolding inside the house.

The central storyline introduces Hetty’s estranged sister, Margaret (Maria Thayer), who spends her afterlife trapped inside a mirror. Their reunion is far from heartwarming. Years of resentment and Hetty’s self-absorption leave serious wounds between them. Even in death, Hetty struggles to understand how deeply her behavior affects her sister.

Margaret eventually tricks Hetty into switching places, trapping her inside the mirror while taking over her ghostly form. The situation creates plenty of comedy as the other ghosts race to reverse the switch before Halloween ends. Beneath the supernatural silliness, however, lies a thoughtful story about family, accountability, and the pain we cause those closest to us.

Hetty’s latest opportunity for redemption is especially satisfying. She grows considerably throughout the series, and Margaret gives the writers a revealing new way to examine her past. Their complicated relationship adds emotional weight to the comedy and makes the plot feel like more than another supernatural predicament.

Meanwhile, Pete’s absence continues to haunt the household. Following his disappearance in last season’s finale, the ghosts still struggle with not knowing what happened to him. Alberta takes matters into her own hands and holds a séance, even though Sasappis reminds everyone that Pete specifically requested a “Do Not Séance” policy.

That decision produces the special’s biggest surprise. As everyone prepares to mark another milestone without Pete, he suddenly reappears on the Woodstone lawn. One enormous problem: He has no memory of his time with the other ghosts. Pete effectively resets to his Season 1 self, with no recollection of his friendships, growth, or bond with Jay.

It is a terrific cliffhanger that immediately raises questions about Pete’s future. His return gives us something to celebrate, but watching him lose everything he's experienced over several seasons makes the moment deeply bittersweet.

“Halloween 6: The Mirror” is a fun Ghosts outing with mystery, laughs, and meaningful character development. Hetty’s relationship with Margaret offers a welcome look at her past, while Pete’s return gives the episode an emotional jolt.

Not every joke lands, but the stories complement each other, and the ending resonates. Before the series returns in 2027, I am eager to see whether Pete’s reset continues into Christmas. This fun Halloween visit to Woodstone earns an 8/10.
