Can Colette persuade Barb to get their office a new coffee machine, while Vic's relationship with Gregg might be at stake? Here's a recap and review of DMV, "Splash Fountain."
When Barb receives extra cash, she excitedly plans a holiday sweater party for her department. However, the staff desperately wants a new coffee machine to replace their constantly breaking one. Ceci convinces Colette to help persuade Barb, even declaring Colette her "BFF" to seal the deal.
Colette's attempts to connect with Barb fail spectacularly; from sending cat memes to a chaotic girls' night out, she can't handle the pressure. While riding in a driverless car, she accidentally spills the details of the staff's "operation" to get the coffee machine, thoroughly upsetting Barb. Trapped together, they find common ground and work out how to stop the car. Colette ends the car ride by telling her co-workers that Barb bought the holiday sweaters, and Ceci stops the vehicle with a hateful stare.
Meanwhile, Gregg is upset about not being accepted for a new chair, so he calls the customer support line and vents his frustration. Instead of encountering typical hostility, he speaks with someone incredibly calm and helpful named Kevin, which immediately lifts his spirits and makes him feel genuinely valued.
This greatly frustrates Vic, who tries repeatedly to get Gregg to join him at the Splash Fountain (where they watch customers get sprayed inside the building). However, Gregg is constantly busy with Kevin, who is diligently assisting him with his chair issue.
Vic's attempts to involve Noa in the Splash Fountain fun also fail, despite them bonding over protein powder. Vic finally talks to Ceci, who confirms his suspicion: Kevin is an AI. Vic considers telling Gregg that his new friend doesn't exist, but wisely decides that spoiling something that makes his friend happy isn't worth it.
Later on, everyone takes a group photo wearing their new Christmas sweaters, which are predictably itchy and scratchy. Just as the picture is about to be taken, Ceci leaves in an embarrassed huff while Barb stumbles, resulting in an awkward but amusing holiday photo that truly captures the spirit of the East Hollywood DMV.
"Splash Fountain" was a good episode from start to finish. The bonding experience between Colette and Barb, though sparked by deception, was a delightful development. I enjoyed watching Colette's efforts to sway Barb backfire, only to lead to a deeper connection between the two.
The Gregg and Vic story was one of the best so far. It showcased the best of their friendship: Vic dealing with jealousy over an AI taking Gregg away, and ultimately choosing to protect his friend's happiness rather than exposing the truth about "Kevin." Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.
What did you think of this episode? Do you think Gregg will ever find out about Kevin being an AI? And what item do you think the DMV should prioritize buying next: a new coffee machine or a more comfortable chair for Gregg? Leave a comment.
You can catch DMV Mondays at 8/7c on CBS and streaming the next day on Paramount+.
