FBI (S8, Ep. 21) "Long Shot"

In its latest hour, the FBI delivers a blend of high-tech corporate greed with the messy realities of Bureau politics. Between a “predictive market” murder plot and OA’s career-threatening exile, “Long Shot” is a high-octane installment that proves the team’s greatest threats often come from within. Here is my recap and review.

The episode opens with the high-profile public murder of a Fortune 100 senior vice president, a hit that initially looks like a standard corporate assassination. However, the team quickly uncovers a link to a dormant domestic terrorist organization. In a chilling twist, the investigation reveals that the “terror” angle is merely a smokescreen. The perpetrators are weaponizing predictive markets, similar to real-world platforms like Polymarket, to gamble on and profit from the very chaos they’re creating. It’s a modern, cynical motive that gives the procedural elements a sharp, relevant edge.

While the team hunts the killers, OA finds himself fighting a different kind of war. The new ADIC, Green, arrives determined to micromanage the office, putting immense pressure on Isobel and Jubal. When OA exercises field judgment that contradicts Green’s direct command, the ADIC uses him as a scapegoat, reassigning him to a low-level surveillance detail. Ever the investigator, OA refuses to sit idle; he takes a massive legal risk by planting a bug in a suspect’s bathroom—a move that nearly ends his career before the case even reaches its climax.

The tension of the hunt is doubled by OA’s awkward pairing with Zara. Having recently ghosted her after their first date, OA is forced to navigate a minefield of personal fallout while maintaining professional focus. The emotional weight of the hour is balanced by Maggie, who delivers the episode’s most visceral moment by tracking down OA and shooting a suspect just as he’s about to be stabbed. In a final act of loyalty, Zara decides to take the official fall for the unauthorized bathroom bug, shielding OA’s record and preserving his path to future leadership.

“Long Shot” is a classic FBI episode that makes bureaucratic pressure feel as intense as a shootout in the field. The use of predictive markets as a tool for murder-for-profit is a clever and timely writing choice. Zeeko Zaki truly shines when his character is pushed into a corner, and his desperation in the bathroom scene feels incredibly real. The Maggie/OA bond, even when they’re apart, reminds us that their partnership is the true heart of the show.

Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.
