Welcome to September, it's finally fall! In this edition of TV Corner Notes, I'm looking back at this week's shows while also highlighting the most anticipated shows of the month, including this week's top picks. So let's jump right in.
Upload Final Season Review
The final season of Upload premiered this week and, even though it consisted of only four episodes, it wrapped up the series on a truly satisfying note.
Season 3 left us on a brutal cliffhanger: Which Nathan was speared? Sadly, it was the original Nathan who was lost, while the digital Nathan survived. Nora spirals into a deep depression, using the computer program to relive their wedding over and over.
Meanwhile, Alicia is working undercover to gather intel on Horizen, and a corrupt AI threatens Lakeview with its increasingly unstable behavior. Thankfully, the “healer” AI, who happens to be staying in the city, returns to restore order. Not only does it save Lakeview, but it also helps transform the afterlife service into a non-profit.
Ingrid and digital Nathan get married, and after he’s downloaded into the real world, the two star in a reality series. They’re expecting a child, whom they plan to name after Luke, a touching tribute to him after he dies while battling the corrupt AI in Lakeview.
Then comes the twist: the original Nathan is actually still alive, being held by Horizen and subjected to experimental treatments. Nora becomes determined to bring him back. Nathan eventually escapes and makes it back to Nora’s arms, but the trauma of the experiment proves too much, and he dies in her embrace.
Even though the season is short, it ends on a poignant, emotionally honest note. Nora’s love story has a tragic ending, but Nathan’s final death allows her to finally move forward. She begins the hard work of rebuilding her life without him, and that choice gives the finale a real sense of hope and renewal.
Greg Daniels delivers a beautiful series ending, one that honors the show’s big ideas about love, technology, and the afterlife without losing the heart or humor that made Upload special. I have no doubt this series will go down as a true comedy gem in the years to come.
Overall, I give this final season a 9/10.
Top 5 Anticipated Shows of September
5. The Lowdown (FX, Tuesday, September 23, 9/8c, two-episode premiere): Ethan Hawke plays a citizen journalist, a self-proclaimed Tulsa "truthstorian" whose obsession with the truth is always getting him in trouble. The recent trailer for the series really piqued my interest, and when Hawke does a TV series, it must be something he truly enjoys.
4. Tulsa King Season 3 (Paramount+): More Sylvester Stallone and Taylor Sheridan—why not, right?
3. Chad Powers (Hulu, two-episode premiere): Glen Powell plays a hotshot quarterback who nukes his Division 1 career, then joins a struggling Southern Football team.Check Out the Reviews
