TV Corner Notes: Upload Swan Song and September's Must-Watch TV

Welcome to September, it's finally fall! In this edition of TV Corner Notes, I'm looking back at this week's shows while also highlighting the most anticipated shows of the month, including this week's top picks. So let's jump right in.

Upload Final Season Review

The final season of Upload premiered this week, and although it consisted of only four episodes, it concluded on a truly satisfying note.

The third season ended on a cliffhanger: which Nathan was speared? Sadly, the digital Nathan was saved, leaving the original Nathan gone, which caused Nora to fall into a deep depression, using the computer program to relive their wedding.

Meanwhile, Alicia works undercover to gather information on Horizon, while a corrupt AI poses a threat to Lake View with its problematic attitude. Luckily, the "healer" AI, who happens to be staying in the city, returns to restore order and saves Lake View, turning it into a non-profit. Ingrid and Digital Nathan get married, and after being downloaded into the real world, they do a reality series. They are expecting a child, whom they'll name after Luke, who dies battling corrupt AI at Lake View.

But here’s an interesting turn: Nathan is still alive and being held by Horizon, where he's receiving experimental treatment. Nora is determined to bring him back, but when Nathan manages to escape and return to Nora's embrace, it tragically results in his passing due to the tumult from the experiment.

Even though the season was short, it concluded on a lovely note, full of acceptance. Nora's love story has a tragic ending, but with Nathan's passing, she begins to rebuild her life without him, offering a sense of hope and renewal. What Greg Daniels did for the series finale was wrap this show beautifully. This show will go down as a comedy gem in the years to come. Overall, I give this final season a 9/10.

Top 5 Anticipated Shows of September

5. The Lowdown (FX, Tuesday, September 23, 9/8c, two-episode premiere): Ethan Hawke plays a citizen journalist, a self-proclaimed Tulsa "truthstorian" whose obsession with the truth is always getting him in trouble. The recent trailer for the series really piqued my interest, and when Hawke does a TV series, it must be something he truly enjoys.

4. Tulsa King Season 3 (Paramount+): More Sylvester Stallone and Taylor Sheridan—why not, right?

3. Chad Powers (Hulu, two-episode premiere): Glen Powell plays a hotshot quarterback who nukes his Division 1 career, then joins a struggling Southern Football team.

2. High Potential Season 2 (ABC, Tuesday, September 16, 10/9c; next day on Hulu): Coming off a top new show of last season, I can't wait to see more of what the series will bring.

1. The Paper (Peacock, Thursday, September 4, all 10 episodes): The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch on The Office finds a new subject when they discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it. This is my most eagerly awaited show of the month and likely the highlight of the entire TV season. It's quite rare to see a TV series focused on a newspaper and its staff.

If you’re looking for a sharp, binge-worthy limited series that captures the tension of The Diplomat with its own high-stakes spin, Netflix’s Hostage should be on your watchlist. Here's my review.
