Still Learning: Supergirl "Stronger Together"

Kara has only been a superhero for a week, and she thinks she can handle things now. But she has much to learn than just using her powers.

Kara has to learn how to handle her powers more in situations. After being trained by her sister and DOE, she gets a call of a fire near a cargo ship. But as she tries to stop it with her cool breath, it worsens and pulls the boat away from the fire, causing an oil spill.

Now, the folks in National City think that Supergirl might not be ready to take the helm like Superman. Kara listens to Cat's opinion and takes it to heart. With the help of Olsen and Winn, she fights crime in a small way, from robbery to even saving a snake from a tree.

With that going on, a new villain searches for manly food. Hellgrammite is on the one loose and works with Kara's aunt Astra, who is like General Zod in a way for Supergirl. Soon after, Henshaw and Alex try to get Hellgrammite to show with his meal.

But when Hellgrammite shows up, he kidnaps Alex and takes her to Astra. Kara gets word of it and searches. Finding Alex, she's surprised to see her aunt,t and a family battle begins. Kara, not doing well, rethinks what Alex told her and uses her powers against her.

Just before Astra does anything, Henshaw gets a shot at her, but just as she's choking him, he stabs her with a knife that weakens her powers and leaves.

Not only did Kara learn a bit of combat in this ep, episode but Alex got to show her a room that her cousin has in his secret place. In this room, her mother shows up as a hologram and asks her mom about Astra.

Meanwhile, a few things happen as well. Cat wants to get the scoop on Supergirl and demands an interview and threatens Olsen to get it or that he'll get fired. Kara helped him and, later on, took Cat on a hilarious ride. Also, near the end, after showing Kara the new room, Henshaw walks away with his eyes glowing red. WHO IS HE, AND WHAT IS HE?! HOLY CRAP!!!

I've admired this series since last week. I'm enjoying the growth that Kara has shown. She's not going to be the perfect superhero over an episode. I'm amazed by Melissa Benoist's performance as Kara. She may seem a dopey girl, but she's carrying her heart on her sleeves, which shows.

Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.

You can catch Supergirl on Monday nights at 8/7c on CBS.
