The Diplomat Scores an Early Season 3 Renewal

Looks like Netflix wants to keep Keri Russell on the job as The Dioplmat a lot longer.

On Thursday, Variety reported that Netflix renewed the hit political thriller series for a thrid season, a few weeks ahead of its second season premiere.

The series stars Russell as Kate Wyler, the newly appointed U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom, where she works to help solve an international crisis and also works to salvage her crumbling marriage to fellow dipolmat Hal, played by Rufus Sewell.

The series debuted in April 2023 and quickly earned critical acclaim along with a number of award nominations that includes an Emmy nod for Russell for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

For season 2, which premieres on Thursday, Oct. 31, picks up right where the first season left off, as "a deadly explosion in the heart of London shatters U.S. Ambassador Kate Wyler's world. As Katw chases the truth, her only real ally is her almost ex-husband Hal Wyler, very much alive, and very much involved," said the official description. Plus Allison Janney joins the cast in the second season authentic U.S. Vice President Grace Penn.

This is fantastic news that Netflix renewed the series for another season ahead of the new season that hasn't aired yet. They really must love what the second season has in store for us to watch. But let me be the reminder that a good chunk of Netflix series that get early renewal sometimes get the renewal reversed.
