A new month means new TV, and August isn’t holding back. Here are the five shows I’m most excited to watch.
August is here, and the television lineup is starting to pile up. From long-awaited returns to bold new dramas, my watchlist is already packed. If you’re trying to decide what to watch, here are the five shows I’m most excited about this month.
5. King of the Hill
Premieres Monday, Aug. 4 on Hulu (All 10 episodes)
The Hills are back! After years of rewatching reruns, I can’t wait to see this beloved animated family return for its 14th season. I loved King of the Hill during its original run, and I’m eager to see how the show balances that classic, grounded humor with a modern touch. This new season promises to be both heartfelt and hilarious, whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer. Get ready for a binge, because all ten episodes are dropping at once!
4. Irish Blood
Premieres Monday, Aug. 11 on Acorn TV (Two-episode debut)
Alicia Silverstone stars in this intriguing new mystery thriller as Fiona Sharpe, a successful L.A. divorce lawyer whose life takes a sharp turn when she receives a cryptic message from her estranged father (played by the always-great Jason O’Mara), sending her on a journey to Ireland for answers. It’s rare to see Silverstone in a series like this, and I’m thoroughly intrigued by the mix of family drama, dark secrets, and international flair. Plus, I’m curious to see what Acorn TV has to offer with this six-part series.
3. Butterfly
Premieres Wednesday, Aug. 13 on Prime Video (All 6 episodes)
Daniel Dae Kim returns to TV in this high-octane spy thriller as David Jung, an enigmatic, highly unpredictable former U.S. intelligence operative living in South Korea, who finds his life blown apart when the consequences of an impossible decision from his past return to haunt him. He's then pursued by Rebecca (Reina Hardesty), a deadly young agent. The trailer completely pulled me in — it looks stylish, suspenseful, and incredibly sleek. As a longtime fan of Kim from Lost and Hawaii Five-O, this one’s a no-brainer for me.
2. Wednesday, Season 2
Premieres Wednesday, Aug. 6 on Netflix (4 episodes)
The first season took me entirely by surprise — I went in as a skeptic and came out a full-blown fan. Jenna Ortega brought something truly special to the character, and the whole show struck the perfect blend of eerie fun and heartfelt coming-of-age. I’m excited (and a little nervous) to see what the second season has in store, especially with the first four episodes dropping in Part 1 this month, followed by Part 2 in September. More mystery and woe await!
1. Alien: Earth
Premieres Tuesday, Aug. 12 on FX/Hulu (Two-episode premiere)
This has been on my radar for years, ever since it was first teased. Now, Noah Hawley — the brilliant mind behind Fargo and Legion — finally brings his take on the iconic Alien universe to the small screen. The setup: a mysterious deep-space vessel crash-lands on Earth, and a group of tactical soldiers uncovers something terrifying. This prequel series, set two years before the original 1979 film, is my most anticipated show of the month. I’m fully on board for more Xenomorph action and Hawley’s unique storytelling. The first two episodes ("Neverland" and "Mr. October") will kick off the eight-episode season.
What’s on your August watchlist? Are you tuning in to any of these shows? What new or returning series are you most excited about this month? Drop a comment or tag me on social — I’d love to hear what you’re watching!
