Extra! Extra! Breaking news! The Paper is following in The Office's footsteps and airing on NBC!
NBC is giving The Paper, Peacock’s spinoff of The Office, a broadcast run this fall. The workplace comedy, which premiered on the streamer earlier this month, will make its NBC debut on Monday, November 10, at 8:30/7:30c, airing alongside St. Denis Medical, which returns for its second season a week earlier with a two-episode premiere.
“NBC viewers embraced The Office in such a profound way during its original run, and we wanted to give The Paper the same opportunity to connect with a broadcast audience,” said Lisa Katz, President of Scripted Programming, NBCU Entertainment. “One of our strengths as a company is meeting fans where they are by delivering shows across multiple platforms to maximize exposure and engagement.”
Set in Toledo, Ohio, The Paper follows a struggling local newspaper through the lens of the same documentary crew that once chronicled Dunder Mifflin. The series stars a new ensemble of newsroom employees, with Oscar Nuñez reprising his role as Oscar the accountant.
The comedy premiered on Peacock on September 4 with all 10 episodes available for streaming. According to NBCU, The Paper debuted as the platform’s second-most-watched comedy premiere, behind only Ted. The series has already been renewed for a second season.
NBC is also using the fall schedule to launch Stumble, a new mockumentary comedy starring Jenn Lyon and Taran Killam. The series, set in the high-stakes world of junior college cheerleading, will premiere Friday, November 7, at 8:30/7:30c following the Season 2 return of Happy’s Place starring Reba McEntire.
With The Office’s legacy still fresh in pop culture, NBC appears eager to recapture that audience by giving The Paper a bigger platform.
