Stranger Things Season 5: The Beginning of the End

Before the epic series finale premieres tonight, here are my quick thoughts on the final season of Stranger Things.

The final season of Stranger Things truly captures a mix of tension and heartfelt moments. With Hawkins on the edge of chaos, what stands out the most is how much the "Party" has grown personally, showing just how resilient and inspiring they are.

This season, the bond between Steve and Dustin truly shines and becomes more heartfelt than ever. In a touching and powerful scene, Dustin gently helps to mend their friendship by encouraging Steve to reconsider his risky plan to go on a 'suicide mission' hero play. Linking Eddie Munson’s sacrifice to Dustin’s heartfelt appeal, this moment beautifully highlights Dustin’s genuine care for Steve, making it a memorable and emotional highlight for both actors.

Will Byers definitely remains the heart of this season. His bond with Vecna finally shifts from a heavy burden to a powerful tool. By the fourth episode, Will taps into his true strength, learning how to connect with the Upside Down on his own terms. Outside of the supernatural elements, Will also finds the courage to stay true to himself. His decision to come out to his family and friends was handled with such grace, marking a special moment where he no longer fears who he is or what Vecna stands for.

One of the most touching and emotional moments features Holly Wheeler and Max Mayfield. We discover that Max has been caught in Vecna's subconscious memory. The two connect deeply as they work together to escape the mental void. When they finally break free, Max gives a heartfelt speech to Holly, inspiring others to find strength even when faced with fear—a truly moving scene that is sure to bring tears to viewers' eyes.

The seventh episode keeps us on the edge of our seats with an exciting cliffhanger. The group manages to infiltrate a military installation to re-enter the Upside Down. Their plan is to wait until Vecna gets close enough to the rift between worlds so they can finally take him down. The tension has never been greater as we look ahead to what's next in the series finale.

Stranger Things 5 is a thrilling, fast-paced ride filled with the signature humor and heart that made us fall in love with the show in 2016. The performances are remarkable across the board, with Sadie Sink being hauntingly good as a girl fighting for her soul, and Noah Schnapp finally gets the spotlight he deserves. Gaten Matarazzo remains the emotional anchor of the group, and Nell Fisher gives a brilliant performance. The only remaining question is whether the Duffer Brothers can stick the landing in the series finale. But as it stands, this is a triumphant return to form. Overall, I give this season a 9/10

Now that the group is officially back in the Upside Down, how do you think the final confrontation with Vecna will end? Do you think everyone will make it out alive? Leave a comment.

You can catch Stranger Things on Netflix.
