The Assassin Renews for Season 2

Looks like there will be more of The Assassin.

On Monday, Deadline reported that Prime Video has renewed the thriller series for a second season, which has been greenlit, with production scheduled to begin later this year. The series was created and written by Harry and Jack Williams.

Expect Keeley Hawes to return as Julie, a former assassin whose quiet life on a Greek island was disrupted in Season 1 when her son, Edward, turned up seeking answers about his paternity. Freddie Highmore (The Good Doctor) stars as Edward and will return for Season 2 as well. Shalom Brne-Franklin (The Girlfriend) will reprise her role as Kayla, Edward's tenacious and savvy fiancĂ©e, along with Devon Terrell, who returns as Ezra, Kayla's unpredictable brother.

The Season 2 plot details sound just as deliciously chaotic as those in Season 1. According to Deadline, the new episodes pick up after a "disastrous" trip to Northern Europe that has left Julie and Edward estranged.

While Edward’s honeymoon goes off the rails, Julie has slipped back into her old, lethal habits, all while trying to navigate the modern dating scene (talk about high-stakes ghosting). The pair will eventually be forced to reunite in Spain to dismantle a corrupt criminal underworld, testing whether their fractured bond can survive another round of international intrigue.

"I can't wait to step back into Julie's world," Hawes said. "To reunite with Freddie and our extraordinary cast, and to dive deeper into Julie's life and her complicated relationship with Edward, is a privilege. There is so much more to uncover."

Highmore added, "What fun it'll be to get the gang back together-I can't wait to be reunited with so many of the cast and crew. Harry and Jack have cooked up another spectacular adventure, and I feel so lucky to have the brilliant Keeley as a sparring partner once again."

While the series premiered on Prime Video in the UK, in North America, the first series is on AMC Network's streaming service, AMC+, and on Crave and CTV in Canada.

The news doesn't come as a surprise, as the first season was well received by critics and viewers alike. Check out my review of the first season.
