It looks like the lines at the East Hollywood DMV have finally reached a dead end.
TVLine has confirmed that CBS has officially canceled its freshman workplace comedy, DMV, after just one season. In a surprising "double-tap" move for the network's schedule, the Sherlock Holmes-inspired sophomore drama Watson was also sent to the chopping block. For fans of the East Hollywood crew, the upcoming season finale on May 11th will now serve as the series finale.
DMV was a sharp, single-camera comedy that took viewers behind the bulletproof glass of the one place everyone dreads visiting. The series followed a ragtag group of minimum-wage workers navigating the daily chaos of disgruntled citizens and bureaucratic red tape, all while finding a dysfunctional sense of family in each other's company. The show boasted a heavy-hitting comedic pedigree, led by executive producer Dana Klein (Friends), and featured a standout ensemble cast. The roster included Harriet Dyer (Colin From Accounts), Saturday Night Live alumni Tim Meadows and Molly Kearney, Alex Tarrant (NCIS: Hawaii), Tony Cavalero (The Righteous Gemstones), and Gigi Zumbado (The Rookie).
While the news is a significant letdown, it doesn't exactly come as a surprise. Despite its star-studded cast and relatable premise, DMV struggled to find a consistent foothold in the ratings against CBS’s more established procedural titans. The simultaneous cancellation of Watson suggests that the network is clearing significant space for a fresh slate of development in the 2026–2027 season. Fans will have one last chance to say goodbye to the staff this May, though many will argue the show was just starting to find its true comedic rhythm.
With the East Hollywood branch shutting its doors for good, are you more disappointed about losing the chaotic chemistry of the DMV crew, or were you more invested in seeing where the Watson mystery was headed? Leave a comment.
You can catch DMV Mondays at 8:30/7:30c on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
