Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed (S1, Ep. 7) "Flighting"

Paula Saunders barely survives one nightmare before being thrown into another, and “Flighting” wastes no time turning her escape into a full-blown collapse. Here's my recap and review.

“Flighting” picks up immediately after last week’s explosive cliffhanger, with Paula escaping the trunk of Dennis’s car by shooting her kidnapper the moment he opens it. Shocked, bloodied, and clutching his phone, Paula does what any deeply traumatized mother trying to appear “fine” would do: she cleans herself up at a nearby store and rushes home to finish hosting Hazel’s soccer pizza party.

That desperate performance of normalcy only lasts until Hazel leaves for a sleepover. Once Paula finally confesses to Geri and Rudy what happened, they push her to go to the police. But when the trio returns to the scene, Dennis’s body has vanished, leaving Paula with no proof and plenty of reasons to look unstable.

With no official help, they begin investigating on their own. Dennis’s phone leads them to an Amazon account under the alias “John Smith,” and eventually to the home of a seemingly sweet older woman who claims she only receives random packages for him and returns them to UPS. Paula immediately suspects she is lying, and she is right: the woman makes a panicked call to a man named Brian the second they leave.

As Paula’s paranoia intensifies, Geri passes the phone to her tech contact, Drew, who clones the data. Meanwhile, Rudy begins to worry that Paula is spiraling beyond reason. Elsewhere, Ashley heads toward Florida and digs up a hidden Florida Gators lunchbox containing a gun, cash, and flash drives with Trevor’s raw webcam footage, including evidence that the original kidnapping was a hoax.

Karl and Mallory also realize their private investigator has gone dark, unaware Dennis murdered him. Karl starts showing remorse over destroying Paula’s life, but Mallory remains ruthless in their custody fight.

By the end, Paula briefly believes she is rebuilding: she gets promoted, Hazel wins her soccer game, and she prepares for a promising date with Steve. But her fragile joy collapses when Detectives Gonzalez and Baxter arrive instead, arresting her for the murders of Trevor and Sky.

“Flighting” is a chaotic, gripping turning point that thrives on the contrast between suburban performance and thriller-level danger. But the biggest question remains: is Gonzalez turning on Paula, or quietly trying to protect her?
