Looks like there will be even more things that will go bump in the night in "Widow's Bay."
Apple TV is returning to Widow's Bay for more scares and laughs. The streamer has renewed the Matthew Rhys–led horror-comedy for a second season.
“From the moment audiences arrived in Widow's Bay, they've been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laugh, and cursed secret that Katie [Dippold], Hiro [Murai], Matthew [Rhys], and the entire team have created,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV, in a statement. “It's become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we're thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can't wait to return for another season.”
Series creator Katie Dippold teased what’s ahead, saying, “Season 2 is about how everything is great on the island, and there's nothing to worry about.”
Widow's Bay follows Mayor Tom Loftis (Rhys), a soft-spoken leader desperate to revive his struggling island community, which has no Wi-Fi, spotty cell service, and a superstitious population convinced the island is cursed. Loftis is determined to prove them wrong and turn Widow’s Bay into a tourist destination for the sake of his teenage son. When visitors finally start arriving, the island’s long-dismissed legends suddenly begin to come true.
The ensemble cast includes Kate O'Flynn (My Lady Jane), Stephen Root (Barry, NewsRadio), Kingston Rumi Southwick (Presumed Innocent), Kevin Carroll (The Leftovers), Dale Dickey (True Blood), L Callan (Lois & Clark), and Jeff Hiller (Somebody Somewhere).
With its mix of sharp comedy, spooky atmosphere, and a fresh spin on horror tropes, Widow’s Bay has quickly become a breakout hit for Apple TV, making its season 2 renewal no surprise.
