The Art of Gambling: The Mysteries of Laura: "The Mystery of Art Ace"
This week on "The Mysteries of Laura" Laura and the gang gets a case of a murder of an artist who was part of a illegal gambling.
When someone finds a dead body in a garbage can, at the time the body is found Laura is taking the boys to school and singing "Take A Little Piece of My Heart" by Janis Joplin. The one thing that I love to hear Messing sing is that she can have fun with it.
Later, Laura and Jake are walking to the crime scene where the victim, David, a worker at an arts gallery for his dad, found in a dumpster. Laura looks around, she talks about a beer bottle that she use to drink in college.
After finding out more of the victim, they go to where he works and talks to his sister and father. The victim's sister was surprised but his father, not really.
Later on, Laura and Jake find out from David's sister that he was at a karaoke bar the other night so Laura and Jake went there since it was near where the victim was found at. As Jake was asking everyone at the bar, Laura sees a karaoke bar and decides to go up there and sing Joplin's hit song. That distracted and the owner of the bar and her bodyguard went to take care of it while Jake sneaked into the back and found an illegal poker game.
The owner did see David there the other night, winning $20,000. The victim was found with the money in his pants thanks to Laura. So Jake told the owner to not cancel the next poker game and decides to put in Laura in the game.
And with Laura going to be in the game, Jake thought that she could get some help in the game of poker by the one person that they both know, Laura's dad. Laura's dad, played by Robert Klein, is a single, divorce who to Laura are not on speaking terms for about a year.
The gang found out that a famous "Page 6" celebrity goes to the game, so Billy and Meredith meet up with the guy and after given Billy a hard time at a strip joint for rental, I'm guessing, Meredith gave him a bit of a moment of his life, force going.
After talking to Billy about the game and not there, the guy accepts to get Laura in the game. That means that she had to go get over her feeling of her dad and learn about the game. Of course, there were a few things that got her upset but Laura did manage to win over her dad and after accepting to help her, he wanted to spend some time with his grandchildren, which he did.
As Laura goes to the poker game as Red Velvet, like the cake, she then starts looking around for the likely suspects. While outside the place, Jake, Meredith and Laura's dad are in the van watching what's happening.
As the poker game goes, Laura tries talking to each member, she spots the one that is a bit aggressive like he has lost the last game. As soon as she talked to everyone including the cocktail waitress, she then talks about David and soon pulls her badge out. The aggressive guy then flips the table like you would have seen in the Real Housewives of New Jersey.
Laura told to go after the waitress. Meredith runs after her and tackles her to the ground. After talking to the waitress, she mentions of the guy who had an argument with David's father, which was seen on video tape.
So since Laura is at the doctor's after that table flip accident, Meredith and Max go out art shopping and finding the suspect. Max and Meredith find him and starts talking, but he really isn't much on talking about it. So Max and the suspect soon bid for a painting and when Max won the art piece, Meredith talked to the suspect which led right to the father as the main suspect.
So Jake and Laura talk to the father again and when he talked and was going to show the books, he confess to the murder. But as he confessed to the murder, Laura as she looks at the books again and soon her father brings the kids, who are full of sugar. She gets upset and we found out why she's upset with him. That would be because he brought Jake to Thanksgiving after she found out that he cheated on her.
Soon after Laura's dad says that he was doing what a father does, that gave a hint that David's father isn't his murderer, but his sister. As Jake and Laura go back, Laura talks to the sister again mention about her father. Jake, meanwhile, goes up to David's sister's office, snoops and has found what is the murder weapon, a bowling pin with sparkles.
Jake brings the murder weapon and soon Laura looks at an art piece that had beer bottles. The guy is David's sister's boyfriend and apparently he wanted David to help try sell his art at the poker game but that didn't work and which lead to his death.
After the case was solved, Laura heats up frozen dinners and her dad comes by to apologize. He didn't want her to become like him and after she forgives. Then he plays with the kids and she cooks up another TV dinner.
This episode was just funny as it could be. Laura singing in this episode was hilarious but not as hilarious as seeing Messing and Klein working on one another as father and daughter. There was chemistry there.
Also it was great to see Meredith show more of her tough side in this episode. I'm really like her character.
Next week episode deals with a lunch party and a murder with a twist.
Side Note: This week it was the network has picked up a full season of the show. That doesn't mean that the show will get picked up for another season, that's way too early. It's doing really well, the best since Deal or No Deal was on Wednesday nights at that time slot. Would recommend to spread the word of how good this series is, how fun and good crime stories it is.
You can catch "The Mysteries of Laura" Wednesday nights at 8/7c part of #WomenCruchWednesday on NBC.
