Welcome Back: Chicago Fire "Rattled Second City" Season Premiere

Chicago Fire is back, and it feels absolutely fantastic! The season's premiere sure gave us a surprising twist that caught us all off guard. Let’s dive into the recap!

The episode titled "Rattled Second City" commenced in a distinguished manner: Joe Cruz hurried to the firehouse due to his tardiness regarding the new paramedic, Gianna Mackey, and his work obligations. This set the stage for an exceptional introduction.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kidd endeavors to revitalize her "Girls on Fire" program, collaborating diligently with senior officials to facilitate its reopening. She soon receives notification that only brief classes will be permitted and must be conducted outdoors. After successfully rescuing both Severide and a victim from a studio fire, Boden recommends that she undertake the lieutenant examination. It appears she is poised to do so!

As Molly's Patio prepares for its opening, interest is initially muted. This changes when Herrmann proposes hosting a treasure hunt featuring clues conveyed through poetry. The enticing prize is a lifetime supply of complimentary beer. With the assistance of Mouch and Ritter, it was previously anticipated that Ritter's poem would be optimal; however, they ultimately chose Mouch's poem, which straightforwardly indicated the treasure's location: Firehouse 51.

On Mackey's inaugural day, she and Brett attend to an overdose victim; however, they soon find themselves confronted by the man's brother, who brandishes a firearm to ensure that Rother does not perish. Unfortunately, while en route to the medical facility, the victim succumbs. Later, Brett discovers the door to his apartment ajar and contacts Casey to investigate the situation. Casey decides to remain alone and shares an enjoyable evening with Brett, who is playing the Heads Up game.

Things take a dramatic turn when Brett and Mackey are summoned for a wellness check and subsequently pursued by the overdose victim's brother in his truck, threatening them with a gun. He forces them off the freeway, culminating in an unexpected cliffhanger.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode! Although I did exclaim vehemently at the conclusion, it was a delightful experience featuring quintessential moments from the Fire series, such as Kidd saving Severide and Brett and Mackey addressing an overdose case. Cruz's sprint to work served as a humorous start to the season. Additionally, the chemistry between Gallo and Mackey and Cruz's role as the protective older brother provided an amusing aspect to the episode, complemented by Herrmann and Mouch's antics.

Addressing a pressing matter, the situation between Brett and Casey remains significant. The scene in which they engage in the Heads Up game was my favorite, potentially serving as a pivotal moment for my desire for these two to unite. I have elaborated further on this topic in an additional post should you wish to explore it.

Overall, this episode is a 9.5 out of 10.
