One Chicago Recap: Chicago Med "Broken Hearts"/Chicago Fire "Chaos Theory"/Chicago P.D. "Zoe"

Wow, what an exciting week it’s been for One Chicago! Let’s dive into the recap!

Chicago Med "Broken Hearts"

Wow! This episode truly tugged at my heartstrings!

Ripley and Lenox teamed up to provide care for conjoined twins, one of whom was diagnosed with cancer that needed both removal and separation. When the test revealed that the cancer had spread, Lenox quickly informed Dr. Hayes to move the procedure up. Initially, the other brother hesitated to proceed with the surgery, knowing there was only a 50/50 chance of survival. However, Lenox shared her journey of finding her voice, she inspired the brother to speak up and opt for the surgery. Unfortunately, despite their hopes, the brothers faced a heartbreaking outcome as the outspoken brother suffered a stroke after separation.

Meanwhile, Asher receives a visit from her sister, who asks for her help in getting IVF meds by claiming she has a condition that she doesn't have. Although Asher knows she can't agree with that, after a thoughtful conversation with Ripley, she decides to support her sister in the best way possible, helping to cover the cost of her IVF treatments.

Archer tends to be a very challenging patient who initially comes off as complex, often quite harsh with her assistant, who seems overwhelmed. However, everything changes when Archer informs her about the necessity of her hearty surgery, explaining that there's a 50/50 chance of survival. This revelation prompts her to reconsider her actions and begin making amends with others, realizing the gravity of her situation, which is quite a shift from her usual demeanor. After successfully undergoing the surgery, she returns to her old self, but this time without her assistant, as she chooses not to work for someone she views as unkind.

Ripley discovers that Sully is being sent back to jail; he pleads with Lenox to consider ordering more tests so he can spend a little more time at Med with his family. Lenox hesitates initially, but after considering the twins' situation, she decides to proceed with the extra tests. This leads to a touching moment for both her and Ripley. However, the news for Ripley takes a sad turn when he learns that Sully passed away just moments before.

"Broken Hearts" truly outdid itself with another fantastic episode! The way Asher, her sister, and even Lenox grew throughout the story was truly inspiring and made it all the more captivating. I find myself drawn to Lenox, especially as we witness her transformation while working with Hayes—who might just be a potential love interest in the future (is it too soon to think about that?). Plus, seeing her shift her perspective about keeping Sully at Med longer while working alongside Ripley was a nice touch!

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

Chicago Fire "Chaos Theory"

This week's episode saw inspiring moments and even a bit of a superhero in the moment.

Following Cruz's incident in the last episode, he keeps quiet about what happened with Junior, but things always come back more significantly. Then, Pascal brings up the reopening of the Flacco case, which gets Cruz thinking. It all changes when he sees Javi chatting with his friend about how his dad, a firefighter, and a true hero, decided to finally share the truth with Severide and Atwater. In some great news, Cruz was let go since there was no case against him, and although he received a two-week suspension, he's ready to move forward. Will he be part of the Crossover event?

In the meantime, there was an incident at a school involving a mysterious gas. It turned out to be tear gas and pepper spray drifting towards the school from an exercise demonstration just a block or two away. Kidd hears that the teacher, Amy, is familiar with her, and they talk about the events. Later, Kidd discovers that Amy is considering leaving her teaching position to become a firefighter. However, Kidd encourages her to embrace her incredible talents as a teacher instead!

During a call, Carver truly shines as the hero we always believed he could be, bravely lifting a sewer cover to save a victim below. Thankfully, the victim comes through just fine, allowing Violet and Carver to share some heartwarming moments. Flynn can't help but feel a twinge of jealousy and shares a chat about Daredevil later with Violet, especially as it seems to bring them closer in their relationship journey.

"Chaos Theory" was a delightful episode filled with humor, inspiration, and heartwarming moments. The Cruz storyline was powerful, showcasing a depth to the character that we've missed for some time. It was touching to see Cruz listening to Javi share stories about his dad—it gives you all the feels in the best way! Not to mention the Stella-Amy story, which was nice to have with Kidd back after being absent in the previous episode. It was a solid win for 51 during that rescue and a solid and classic win from Kidd that inspired Amy.

Look out, Clark Kent! Carver is the new Superman in Chicago, and it was so much fun to see how that reignited the spark between him and Violet—I just loved it! Flynn noticed it, too, which made me chuckle when he joked about Daredevil. Come on, Flynn, you can't outshine Superman! And how about that funny story about Ritter? His Uber rating took a hit, and he thought Herrmann might be involved, but it turns out it was just Ritter being a bit too picky with the rides he chooses!

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

Chicago P.D. "Zoe"

A murdered family, a child left alone, and a son getting a surprise visit. Talk about an interesting episode this week on Chicago P.D.

When Ruzek receives a call for a welfare check, it unexpectedly leads to a deeper investigation involving a mother and daughter. The only one unharmed in this situation is the little girl left alone. Ruzek engages with her to discuss what happened and asks about her father, who turns out to be the main suspect, especially after they discover that this tragic event isn't the first for his so-called family.

As the team gets a lead on a location where the suspect is still making payments, Ruzek and Voight find not only that the place is empty but also come across shocking evidence of the tragic fates of the women and children that the suspect had harmed. It seems this case is far from being closed and probably will come back around during the season.

In the meantime, Ruzek is pleasantly surprised by a visit from his dad, Disco Bob. But this isn't just a casual catch-up; a lot more is happening. We see Bob accidentally mix up a case close to Mac's, even causing a stir in the district when he tries to hop into his squad car. During their heartfelt conversation, Bob shares that he has Alzheimer's disease and is planning to head to a facility in Florida. After wrapping up the case, Ruzek expresses his wish for Bob to stay and be with his family. Bob admits things might get tough, but that doesn't change the fact that he'll have family around. The conversation ends on a touching note, with Bob telling Ruzek how much he loves him and how proud he is of him, which makes everything feel even more meaningful.

"Zoe" was another great episode written by Gwen Sigan and Gavin Harris (two of the best writers on the show). The episode not only had such an intense and mysterious investigation but also pulled the heartstrings and gave us tissues with the relationship between Ruzek and his dad, Bob. I could see it in Bob's expression that he was facing memory trouble, but Jack Coleman's performance was terrific.

With the Burzek wedding approaching this season (possibly even as the season finale), who agrees with Mac that the wedding should be in Belize? I think Mac has the perfect plan—let's escape the chilly, windy city and soak up some sun in a lovely destination! But hey, dreaming is half the fun, isn’t it? I really enjoyed those sweet moments with Mac and Ruzek!

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.
