One Chicago Recap: Chicago Med "The Invisible Hand"/Chicago Fire "Cut Me Open"/Chicago P.D. "Black Ice"

From shocking endings to a heartfelt moment, here's a recap of this week's episodes of One Chicago.

Chicago Med "The Invisible Hand"

When the nurses decide to hold a sick-out at the hospital, it transforms into a tremendous team effort for the doctors, with Goodwin even stepping in to lend a helping hand. This situation inspires a light-hearted bet between Archer and Frost, who challenge each other on how quickly they can treat patients in the ED. In this exciting race, Frost just manages to edge out Archer, who impressively picks up on a patient’s recent history almost instantly.

Meanwhile, after winning the bet, Archer generously treated Frost and the fantastic nursing staff to lunch as they eagerly awaited news on a new contract, which has been a bit of a rollercoaster. Just when things seemed uncertain, Goodwin swoops in like a superhero, handing Maggie one of the last contracts before the hospital considers letting them go and bringing in new nursing staff. This time, the contract is a go, and everyone is filled with relief and excitement as they head back to work.

Lenox and Hayes tackle a surgical case that even Dr. Howard hesitates to join, sharing her discomfort about Hayes’s inappropriate behavior during their surgical procedures with Lenox. After a successful surgery, as Lenox gets ready for her trip with Hayes, she discovers that she, too, experienced similar inappropriate actions from him, just like Howard. Unfortunately, it seems the trip will have to be canceled.

Dr. Charles and Ripley are caring for a patient with a passion for looking perfect. However, the day's surprise comes when his fiancée enters, revealing herself as none other than Charles' mother! Oh no! This certainly kicks off a confusing moment for Charles, who attempts to explain that her fiancé is not scamming her, which is a bit far from the truth. Together, Charles and Ripley work to uncover the real issue with their patient, which turns out to be an overabundance of facelifts! But a shocker comes when, just as Charles likes his mother's new guy, he tries to wake her up and finds her unresponsive. It doesn't look good at all.

"The Invisible Hand" was a fantastic episode filled with humor, drama, and even a surprising twist right before Mother's Day! The journey of Lenox and Hayes sheds light on his inappropriate behavior, resembling a storyline we've seen in another show this season. However, it truly gives Lenox a compelling reason to engage and grow as a character, but she's going to fight like hell against Hayes. I really enjoyed the bet between Archer and Frost! It brought a lot of fun and humor to the story. It was quite a shock to see Charles' mother pass away in the ED, especially after hearing such wonderful things about what she said about him to her fiancé, but also arguing about their past. I wonder how Charles will handle this in the next couple of episodes of the season.

Overall, I give this episode an 8.6/10.

Chicago Fire "Cut Me Open"

When Stella and Kelly hear that a mother is in labor and considering placing her baby for adoption, they rush over as quickly as possible. Upon meeting, the three of them have heartfelt conversations about their hopes and dreams for the future, especially regarding kids. They even share personal stories about their backgrounds. Later, Kidd and Kelly discover that the mother had struggled with drug use weeks earlier, even though she had mentioned stopping months prior. This revelation prompts Kidd to open up about her own experiences with drugs, and they begin to bond over their shared struggles. However, this connection begins to deepen only after the mother is rushed in for an emergency C-section.

While Kelly eagerly anticipates Kidd's return, he talks with the mother’s father. They discuss his relationship with his daughter and share their memories together. After the baby boy's birth, everything takes a surprising turn: when the father sees his grandson and his daughter, he changes his mind about the adoption. This revelation leaves Stella and Kelly in shock, especially as the mother, who had lovingly held her child, makes the heartfelt decision to keep him. It truly gives me those Dawsey vibes! Do others feel the same?

In the meantime, with 51 running a bit short on staff (at least it’s a part of the storyline this season), an audit officer is checking out the house to see how things are operating. Unfortunately, with the heaters cranked up and the examiner dressed in all black, he passes out from the heat! Later on, Mouch and Herrmann dig into this audit, and the officer shares that cuts are on the way, affecting everyone, whether you're an old-timer or new to the team. So, let’s stay prepared, everyone!

While waiting on word about Kidd and Kelly, 51 tries to get baby stuff for them, and thanks to Cindy, they found an app for it. But until they become parents, they have the things in a storage closet.

"Cut Me Open" was a heartbreaking episode for Kidd and Kelly. They are on the exciting journey to becoming parents in this episode, but sadly, by the time the mother meets her baby, it just isn't meant to be for Stellaride. Throughout the episode, I kept feeling those Dawesy vibes, reminiscent of when Louie had to be returned to his biological family. Oh man, that still hurts my heartstrings when I think about it! It's hard to believe and even listen when you hear budget cuts when you know the show is going through it themselves.

Overall, I give this episode an 8.8/10.

Chicago P.D. "Black Ice"

After visiting his dad, Ruzek witnessed an icy but tragic accident in icy water. As the team investigates, it leads them to an underage sex trafficking ring that shockingly involves the victim. Meanwhile, Ruzek tries to figure out what his dad meant when he mentioned that he owed money and that he had an account in Florida. After solving the case, Ruzek learns that Bob had the money and that he had made an account for Mac, which just had me grabbing the tissues after that moment.

"Black Ice" was a delightful case of the week episode that not only explored Ruzek's detective skills once again but also highlighted his dad's advice about owing someone money. It revealed that the funds Bob mentioned were actually the money Ruzek had collected to give to Mac, which truly touched my heart. Something tells me that Bob won't be around much longer, and maybe that by the end of the season, to say the least.

Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.
