What happens when a simple deal turns deadly? "Bargain", Paramount+’s latest thriller, takes viewers into a claustrophobic nightmare where trust is scarce, and every choice could be your last. Prepare for a tense, darkly humorous ride. Here's my spoiler-free review.
If Squid Game pushed your tolerance for tension, Paramount+’s Bargain raises the stakes in a far more claustrophobic way. Adapted from a short film, this six-episode Korean thriller blends crime, survival horror, and dark humor into a relentlessly gripping ride.
The series begins with a seemingly routine transaction at a rundown motel that spirals into something far more sinister. When an unexpected catastrophe strikes, strangers with wildly different motives are forced into a brutal fight for survival, where trust is fragile, and every decision comes at a cost.
What sets Bargain apart is its immersive filmmaking. Shot to feel like a series of long, continuous takes, the show traps viewers in the chaos alongside its characters. The pacing is razor-sharp, the tension rarely lets up, and the performances—especially Jeon Jong-seo’s- are magnetic. Even in its darkest moments, the series finds flashes of bleak, unsettling humor.
While Bargain doesn’t offer traditional heroes and occasionally hints at a larger story beyond its central setting, it succeeds as a bold, nerve-shredding binge that rewards close attention with a visceral, high-stress thriller that proves survival can be just as terrifying as the threat itself. Overall, I give it an 8.5/10.
