It looks like Bea and Twila’s mission is officially over.
On Tuesday, Variety reported that Peacock has canceled the spy thriller PONIES after one season.
The cancellation comes more than six months after the series released its eight-episode freshman season on January 15.
Set in 1977 Moscow, PONIES stars Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson as Bea Grant and Twila Hasbeck, two secretaries at the American Embassy who are considered “persons of no interest” — otherwise known as POINES. But when their husbands, both CIA employees, are killed under mysterious circumstances in the USSR, Bea and Twila become CIA operatives themselves, working to uncover a vast Cold War conspiracy and solve the mystery that made them widows in the first place.
The Season 1 finale set the stage for a potential second season, with Bea and Twila believing they had finally outsmarted KGB agent Andrei Vasiliev (Artjom Gilz) — only to find themselves cornered by Vasiliev and his men as the American Embassy burned around them.
Man, this cancellation comes as a surprise. I really thought this series would get a second season. It was fun and entertaining, with strong action and plenty of thrills. Clarke and Richardson were both fantastic, and their chemistry was one of the show’s biggest strengths. It’s a shame that PONIES won’t be returning for Season 2.
What are your thoughts on the news? Do you think that PONIES deserved a second season? Have you even seen the series? Leave a comment.

I want season 2, they left everything hanging, not fair!
