The pieces are finally coming together, but Joe's situation is getting more dangerous by the minute.
Lioness slows things down with "The Idiot Army," but it’s the kind of slower episode that makes the bigger picture even more interesting. As Joe and her team keep pulling at the thread of the Russian operation, the pieces finally start falling into place, showing just how big the threat really is. There’s more dialogue and investigation than action here, but the tension never really lets up. A few funny moments also give the episode some breathing room without taking away from the increasingly serious stakes.
What I liked most was watching Joe and the team finally figure out why she became such an important target. The different operations and interrogations gradually reveal a much larger network working from inside American institutions, giving the season’s conspiracy a lot more weight. At the same time, the present-day storyline keeps reminding us that Joe is still in serious danger. Her arrival at an undisclosed location is especially unsettling because, even though the team is getting closer to figuring out what happened to her, they still don’t know exactly where she is.
Five episodes in, Lioness continues to show that it can build suspense through conversation and investigation just as well as it can through gunfights and explosions. "The Idiot Army" might not be the season’s most action-packed episode, but it moves the story forward in a big way and sets up what could be a very intense final stretch. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.
