FBI Season 9, Episode 2 Review: “Omissions” Delivers a Solid Mystery and a Major Trust Issue

A routine undercover-cop mystery takes an unexpected turn, while a secret operation threatens to divide the team.

“Omissions,” the second episode of FBI Season 9, offers a conventional case-of-the-week story elevated by an effective reveal. The more compelling plot follows OA, Maggie, and Isobel as they quietly advance OA’s undercover operation while Jubal begins to suspect they’re hiding something.

The case begins when Clint Mathias is murdered after meeting his 12-year-old daughter outside her school. Though he initially appears connected to criminals, the team discovers he was an undercover NYPD officer infiltrating a white nationalist group for a Department of Homeland Security task force. The investigation then turns toward Clint’s former partner, Hugo Reyna, and uncovers corruption involving a drug supplier and a wrongful arrest. The killer’s identity provides a satisfying twist, with Clint’s daughter’s teddy bear becoming key evidence.

Meanwhile, Maggie continues adjusting to her partnership with Special Agent Isaiah Green. Their investigation puts them at odds with NYPD Lieutenant Marcus Warren, who refuses to believe one of his officers could be corrupt. It’s a familiar setup for the FBI, but the shifting suspects and personal stakes keep the case moving.

The bigger story is OA’s undercover operation. Still unable to identify Anna’s mysterious backer, OA asks Maggie and Isobel for help. They secretly arrange for tech analyst Ian Lim to build a listening device, but Jubal is beginning to realize his colleagues aren’t telling him everything.

After seeing Isobel speak privately with Ian and later watching him hand her the surveillance bug, Jubal knows something is happening. The episode ends with him interrupting a secret meeting between OA and Isobel, catching them in the middle of their covert arrangement.

It’s a strong cliffhanger that raises an important question: How will Jubal react to being deliberately excluded, especially when the operation involves people he trusts? The lack of transparency could create a bigger problem for the team than the case itself.

“Omissions” doesn’t reinvent the procedural formula, and its murder investigation covers familiar ground. Still, the killer’s reveal delivers a satisfying payoff, while the final scene gives the season’s larger storyline momentum. I’m more interested in the fallout from Jubal’s discovery than another undercover-cop mystery. Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.

Have you watched “Omissions”? Do you think OA and Isobel were right to keep Jubal in the dark, or will this secret operation create even bigger problems for the team? Let me know in the comments!
