Jay's Call: Chicago PD "Equal Justice"

Has Jay taken a play from Voight's playbook? Here's a recap of this week's Chicago PD.

As the Intelligence Unit does a stakeout, their cover gets blown when they spot someone who's taken a car full of heroin. They quickly learn that the man, Lateral Wade, is not only working for the gang but also trying to find his son's killer, who he believes is the gang leader.

Jay and the team try to work with the father, trying to get in with the gang, but they fail after the father sees the gang leader's car. After that deal has failed, Jay learns that the father's son might not have been killed over drugs but of a relationship with a young woman, who happens to be in a relationship with one of the gang members.

Just as the Intelligence Unit made an arrest, gunshots were heard, and they found their suspect dead. Jay spots the runaway car and learns that it's the father. As Jay talks with Voight about the situation, Jay decides to arrest the father, yet tells him to lawyer up and keep quiet.

"Equal Justice" was an excellent episode. Lawrece Gilliard, Jr. was fantastic as Lateral Wade, the father who seeks explanations for the death of his son. Even Jesse Lee Soffer was good, and the bond that the two characters had during this episode was delightful.

It did leave Halstead with a situation that you would think he would just arrest. Still, during that scene, when talking to him about fathers and sons, he had a whole different feeling that not only had him capture Wade but advised him to lawyer up and keep quiet.

Was it a play from Voight's playbook? We have seen it all the time. Had Jay become more like Voight? That's tough to say.

Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.
