Next Level Drama: Chicago PD Season 8 (Episodes 7-16)

The rest of Season 8 of Chicago PD (Episodes 7-16) was utterly unique! Once again, the show has stepped up and made it even better than the previous season. Here's a recap and thoughts!

We see Burgess balancing her professional career and motherhood when adopting Makayla. It stresses when she has to think about Makayla's guardian if something should happen to Burgess.

Of course, Ruzek would be the ideal choice, but before the question would have come up, both Burgess and Ruzek took a bit of a break after she thought he killed his dad's kidnapper to help get his dad out of trouble. But let's say that Ruzek agreed to become Makayla's guardian.

Ruzek and Atwater's partnership was tested again when they had to escort a CPD officer caught on video shooting a young black man. But when they get attacked, they must go undercover to give the team time to discover the suspect. Even though the two had some heated arguments about the situation with the cop, the two were still on good terms. Plus, it was one of the best episodes until the final two.

Upton and Halstead's relationship was put to the test. When Jay tells Hallie he loves her, she doesn't know how to take it. Instead of saying it back, she takes on a case that goes from family domestic violence that turns into kidnapping and a search for a missing girl that puts Upton on edge after knowing her personal history.

Also, Voight questions Upton about her relationship with Halstead. While she distances the questions, he again goes above and beyond to solve a robbery-homicide case. While it ended up with the suspect dead, Halstead backs his partner with the cover story. She does tell Voight that she and Jay are in a relationship.

The two-part season finale felt like the season premiere. When Miller's son asks Voight for help to get him to pay out of drug dealing, that is until he is in some deep with a dealer doing more than dealing drugs. Miller's son ends up dead, and the team learns that he was trying to help a young girl get out of sex trafficking.

While searching for the two suspects, Burgess gets attacked and kidnapped. She's taken away, gets the stuff kicked out of her, and soon gets shot. While the team still searches, we see the section on opposite sides on how to handle it.

The episode ends with Burgess being found and taken to Med, Ruzek on the phone with Atwater, given updates about Burgess. Upton comes home after dealing with shooting the suspect after trying to grab Voight's gun. And we see Voight digging up a grave at the Gallows and bearing the dead suspect. The old Voight is back!

I loved Season Eight of Chicago PD, as I said earlier. The strong character development and writing step the season up from the previous one. Eriq LaSalle directed one of my favorite episodes, "Serve and Protect."

The season finale was breathtakingly unforgettable. I can't wait for Season Nine!!! Overall, I give the season a 9/10.
