One of my favorite TV series in 2023 was the rom-com Colin from Accounts. It will not only make you laugh but also tug at your heartstrings (in a good way). Here's my review.
The latest trend in television conversation, besides The Bear, Shogun, and House of the Dragons, is this little comedy series getting a lot of attention: Colins from Accounts. It's what we all need in our television watchlist.
The series takes place in Sydney, Australia, and centers on two singles, Ashley and Gordon (played by Harriet Dyer (American Auto) and Patrick Brammall (The Moodys)), who are brought together (or, in this case, have a meeting) by a car accident involving an injured dog, whom they name Colin (spoiler: don't worry about the dog; he doesn't die).
Both Ashely and Gorden are seen as funny but flawed and have struggles that they are trying to deal with (Gordon trying to run a bar and dealing with medical issues while Ashley deals with trying to find a place and combat the problems with her mother). Still, for some reason, they seem to find their true selves and help navigate life together.
The first season (eight episodes) is cute, heartwarming, and funny. Dryer and Brammall (who are married and created the series) show great chemistry, and the dog steals the show as well. It feels like a long-time dog part of a series that has stolen the show (for example, Murray from Mad About You and Eddie from Fraiser). And the writing on the series is excellent.
The season finale had a nice emotional effect when Ashely and Gordon gave Colin away (which was sad) to a weird family (which we can all agree should take care of any animal). Still, it was a tear-jerking moment when you saw them talk it out because Gordon had so many emotions building up, whether they decided to get Colin back or not (must watch the ending to find out).
Overall, I give the first season a 9/10
