In the season finale of FX's English Teacher, will Evan decide to stay friends or be in a relationship? Here's a recap.
In "Birthday" Malcolm gives Evan a surprise birthday party at a gay bar with all of his colleagues from work, talk about a funny surprise. Even Harry is there and makes things a bit awkward for Evan as he's trying to stay by his rule of not dating colleagues from work.
Throughout the episode Evan tries avoiding the serious relationship talk with Harry, as even Malcolm sees that there's something there. But just when Malcolm performs for Evan and sees both Harry and Malcolm up on stage a talk from Markie gets in Evan's head and makes the decision that he loves....Malcolm.
Meanwhile, Gwen is dealing with her breakup with her boyfriend due to the backyard pool and not finding a job and that gets Markie into thinking that it's his chance to tell her his feelings for her. But that all ended, as Gwen realize that that Nick is her guy and are back together. Sorry Markie.
"Birthday" is a perfect example of two things: 1. It rounded out most of the story plots from this season from Nick's backyard pool thing to Evan dealing with whether or not to be in a relationship. 2. Evan's story arc about his relationship felt so natural and right for the character to chose Malcolm over Harry. Its a true season ender that puts a smile on the face and hopes that there is another season coming.
Overall, I give "Birthday" a 9.5/10.
