The Irrational is back! Here's a recap of this week's winter premiere.
When a renowned tennis player goes missing for two days, Alec and his team leap into action. Unfortunately, Alec is sidelined due to a sudden spleen injury from his reckless behavior during past cases this season. Nevertheless, like Alec, he continues to pursue the investigation.
Alec and his team separated from Marisa and Rose to search for the missing tennis player in the woods, even with a wildfire nearby. Meanwhile, Phoebe, Rizwan, and Simon speculated about the player's possible whereabouts. Soon after, Rose and Marisa located the missing tennis player, but they soon found themselves caught in the crossfire from a mysterious figure shooting from the hilltop.
While taking cover from the shooter, Marisa explains to Rose the panic she has been feeling in the woods. Years ago, while pregnant, she went into labor during a walk in the woods. She managed to find someone to drive her to the hospital, where her baby was immediately put up for adoption. As Alec investigates potential suspects, he zeroes in on one person: the former coach and stepfather of the tennis player, who stands to gain $12 million from her life insurance if she dies. Not good!
As Alec uncovers the suspect's identity, he eagerly tries to leave the hospital to lend a hand to Marisa and Rose. However, he finds himself back in surgery after accidentally reopening his wound. Meanwhile, Marisa and Rose skillfully navigate a series of clever detours to confront the tennis player's stepdad. Before long, Alec recovers from surgery and settles in for some well-deserved rest with Rose by his side. He reassures her he isn't worried about her after everything that has happened. What a smooth move, Alec!
The episode "Lost Souls" was a fantastic way to kick off the new year! It brought so much excitement, showcased terrific character development, and featured a genuinely delightful performance by Maahra Hill. With all the wild experiments and tricky situations Alec navigated this season, it was only a matter of time before everything circled back to him. How they handled his sidelining was quite clever, leaving us eagerly wondering if Alec will take a moment to reassess his motives for the rest of the season and the series. It may seem like a stretch, but he's genuinely seen how important he is to everyone, from his sister to his girlfriend. The experiments with Phoebe, Rizwan, and Simon included some hilarious moments, especially when they discovered that Simon had a bit more cash to occasionally treat them!
Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.
