It seems we won’t be able to catch that sneak peek of the exciting new spinoff in the FBI series after all.
On Monday, Deadline reported that FBI: CIA, the latest spinoff to the FBI series, won't be getting a backdoor pilot this spring. It's nearing a straight-to-series order for the 2025-2026 TV season.
The primary holdup to this is casting, as negotiations for the male lead are still underway. FBI: CIA centers on a street-smart CIA agent who joins forces as part of a new, clandestine task force charged with solving and preventing domestic terrorism in and around New York City. The original plan was to introduce three of the series regulars in the backdoor pilot (like other typical Dick Wolf series like the Chicago series, for example). Still, production for the episode has been pushed back many times, for which FBI is nearing finishing its seventh season.
If the series gets straight to series order, it will join the FBI on the CBS lineup. Also, the title is likely to change as it's "met with mixed reaction."
Are you hoping for a new FBI series? If the series gets picked up, will you be tuning in? Leave a comment.
You can catch The FBI's Tuesdays, beginning at 8/7c on CBS and streaming the next day on Paramount+.
