One Chicago Recap: Chicago Med "Acid Test"/ Chicago Fire "Bar Time"/ Chicago P.D. "Marie"

Will Med keep its doors open after an unexpected visitor? Did Carver make a mistake by being untruthful to Violet? Will Ruzek and the team be able to locate Zoe in time? Let's dive into a recap of this week's exciting episodes of One Chicago.

Chicago Med "Acid Test"

When the hospital is overwhelmed with patients, it isn't the best time for a National Accreditation Board representative to inspect it. Granted, this isn't the nicest guy to have on the floor, given that Goodwin and Maggie had some tough times, and seeing that the hospital had gotten around 15 citations when the other hospital he shut down got 20. Yikes! More later.

Asher assists a young patient with an unusual infection. The mother is reluctant to consider her daughter pregnant or sexually active. Tests confirm a staph infection, but a scan reveals a sudden drop in blood pressure and a rash, leading Asher to discover that the patient left a tampon inside.

Lenox and Frost team up on a gunshot victim that was accidentally shot by her brother, who thought he was an intruder. But then Frost treated the mother with a cut between her thumb and index finger, he realized that she might have been the shooter, and she tells him, plus that she thought that it was her husband, who's an alderman, who might have come back to abuse them again.

Later, after the son made it through surgery, the mother admitted to the shooting and was taken into custody. Still, it's Lenox that gives us a surprise when she confronts the alderman about the abuses he's given to his family, with an x-ray of his youngest son with fractures, and quickly the alderman leaves. Way to go, Lenox!

While dealing with his medical suspension, Ripley helps Lynne with her son and household tasks. After their talk, Lynne kisses Ripley, a moment that could mean more. After leaving, he visits a church and encounters Kay, a patient from the past season, who offers advice about what truly matters in his life, Hannah.

Unfortunately, while Ripley was talking to Hannah about how he loves her, she's decided to break things off with each other thanks to the advice from Dean, who was honest and truthful when he talked to her.

And if you are wondering if the hospital will stay open, of course, thanks to a highly motivating and inspiring Dr. Archer, who has been in this episode on acid thanks to one of his patients that slipped a sticker on his arm. Acid Dean is a fun Dean to have on Med, right?

"Acid Test" was a genuinely enjoyable episode filled with truly memorable moments, especially with Ripley, who navigates his grief and eventually recognizes how important Hannah is to him. I appreciated the conversation with Kay at the church—it showcased incredible character development! Since Hannah and Ripley decided to part ways, could that spark something between Asher and Archer? I find it challenging to see that as I still picture them more like a Halstead-Maggie dynamic than a Halstead-Manning one. And we can't overlook those hilarious moments when Archer was on acid! Watching Dean on acid is such a wild experience—it's like getting to see him become a different, more likable version of himself. Wow!

Overall, I give this episode an 8.8/10.

Chicago Fire "Bar Time"

It's the late shift and pay day. Do you know what that means? Another wild night for our heroes at 51.

With payday approaching, 61 is geared up for a long night of bar calls and a ride-along with them from drunks that get into a fight to even an overdose at Molly's. The ride-along is with Novak's ex-fiancĂ©, Oz, who is receiving some training. The two have differences, but they discussed it and parted on good terms. However, in Novak's case, hoping there will be no more ride-alongs.

Herrmann is overwhelmed with paperwork from budgets and other forms that must be completed. After submitting the budget reports a few hours late, Herrmann enlists Kidd, Mouch, and others to help him finish the rest of the reports before Pascal returns. There's nothing like teamwork to support someone in need.

Violet feels a mix of happiness and confusion when she hears from another paramedic that Carver was at their firehouse the other night instead of the meeting he mentioned earlier. While she’s understandably upset and curious about why he would mislead her, Carver later confides in Kidd and requests some time off to focus on his foundation. If there’s an MVP of the episode, it’s definitely Carver. It’s clear that he’s been through a lot, from not being truthful with Violet to dealing with a problematic situation involving a drunk driver, and it’s heartwarming to see how he’s striving to make things right. When Violet learns about Carver's leave of absence, she gets a note telling her that she matters to him and that he'll see her when he returns.

"Bat Time" has quickly become one of my favorite episodes of the season! It feels refreshingly simple, especially amid all the intense drama involving drunks, overdoses, and the struggle to finish paperwork. The best part? This episode wraps up beautifully on a happy note, bringing out the tissues—particularly with the heartfelt moments for Carver. Yes, it's sad to see him leave for a while, but for his character to get help, he needs to find another way to get better, and going to that meeting wasn't working, and even working over and over isn't going to last.

Does anyone else think Oz resembles Reacher? It would be so exciting if Fire decided to keep him around; having someone like Reacher look after those awesome guys would be unique. Just sharing this thought!

One of the funniest moments in the episode is when Cruz gets caught in the 51 vortex, and every time he tries to leave, something stops him—whether forgetting his wallet or sticking around so Herrmann can drop off the budget reports. It really made me laugh! Welcome to work, buddy! I can relate; I've been there too many times myself.

Overall, I give this episode an 8.8/10.

Chicago P.D. "Marie"

In a tense turn of events, Zoe is kidnapped by her father, prompting Ruzek and the team to spring into action and track them down. However, when they finally locate Zoe's father, he is injured, but sadly, Zoe is still missing. During the interrogation with the suspect, he rambles on with meaningless chatter, offering nothing but frustrating statements. But then, he clues them in on where he left Zoe, though it turns out to be a ruse, meant to divert attention while contemplating a dire decision.

Ruzek and his team were thrilled to get some help from Zoe with her clues! This time, when he stumbled upon a note at a local clinic, they thought Zoe might be at an abandoned motel. As they searched the motel with great care, Ruzek and Burgess discovered Zoe locked up. Later, Ruzek went on a heartfelt quest to find Zoe's family, using an ancestry website to aid his search. The team went above and beyond to uncover any Zoe relatives. Finally, Ruzek uncovered a family connection, revealing a deceased mother and a grandmother, who Zoe gets to meet and learn that her actual name is Marie!

Meanwhile, Ruzek is navigating another challenging situation with his dad, Bob. Sadly, Bob's condition has taken a turn for the worse, creating some difficult moments for the family. When Ruzek arrives home, he gently brings up the idea of a memory care center just a mile away. However, Bob’s response, asking "remind me of your name," hits Ruzek hard. It's a heart-wrenching reminder for him that his father's condition has taken a turn for the worse.

"Marie" beautifully highlights Ruzek's journey in this episode. Watching Ruzek search for Zoe while navigating family relationships is thrilling and emotional, especially with his dad. When Marie finds her family, there is a feeling of relief. Still, it is heartbreaking to see Ruzek face the reality that his father cannot remember his name or even recognize him anymore. Patrick Flueger and Jack Coleman performed more in this week's episode. Another MVP moment this week!

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.
