Poker Face "One Last Job"

In a rare mix of romance and tragedy, "One Last Job" delivers one of Poker Face's most emotionally charged stories. Charlie unexpectedly finds love but is pulled back into deception, regret, and crime. Here's a recap.

In "One Last Job," Charlie finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time, especially regarding love. A budding romance with kind-hearted store manager Bill (Corey Hawkins) is cut short when he mysteriously vanishes. Charlie suspects foul play and begins investigating what happened after a botched robbery and a trial of betrayal.

The episode centers on Kendall (Sam Richardson), a fired dreamer and wannabe screenwriter whose misguided choices turn a small-time heist into a devastating tragedy. As Charlie figures out what happened to Bill and puts the pieces together, the episode leans heavily into film noir, blending elements of romance and hired troops with sharp direction and cinematic references, including a stylish climax inspired by Heat.

"One Last Job" blends genres in classic Poker Face fashion—part noir, part rom-com, part heist film—and executes it with surprising emotional depth. Natasha Lyonne chimes in as Charlie forms a rare connection with the episode's victim, which is one of the few times Charlie forges a genuine romantic bond, only to see her lose it. Sam Richardson stands out as the affable yet flawed Kendall, whose love of film ultimately scripts his own tragic ending. This episode is one of the series' strongest: emotionally layered, cleverly structured, and visually compelling.

Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.
