Is Colette really the "easy pass" driving instructor everyone jokes about? This week, she was put to the ultimate test when her crush, Noa, landed in her passenger seat for his driving exam. Here's my recap and review.
After finishing an exam, Gregg and Vic immediately joke about Colette being an "easy pass" instructor, implying she gives preferential treatment to anyone remotely handsome. Colette, determined to prove them wrong, is immediately challenged when she discovers Noa is her next driver. Does she stay true to her word? Not exactly.
She quickly discovers that Noa lacks any significant driving experience—unless you count dune-buggy driving. This inexperience becomes dangerously evident when Noa accidentally breaks Gregg's side mirror. Despite this clear failure, Colette initially passes him anyway, simply because she doesn't want to hurt his feelings.
Stealing Keys and Smashing Mirrors
Things spiral out of control for Colette when she attempts to intervene in Noa's life. After he buys a vehicle from his friend Mary, Colette tries to steal his keys. Escalating her panic, she enlists Gregg and Vic to help her steal the battery from Noa's van.
The chaos culminates when Colette mistakenly believes she sees Noa and Mary having sex in the back of the vehicle. In reality, they were simply struggling to fit a folding table inside. In the midst of the confusion, Noa discovers the trio in his van when Vic accidentally kicks the gearstick into neutral, sending the van rolling back and smashing Gregg's other side mirror.
Later, Colette finally admits the truth to Noa: he didn't pass. While he is initially disappointed, having heard she was an "easy pass" to get his license, he humbly accepts the decision, realizing three accidents in one day might be a sign he isn't ready for the road.
Managerial Portraits and Water Wars
Meanwhile, Barb is finally past her probationary period and is officially the DMV manager. Inspired by seeing the photos of previous top bosses on the wall, she enlists Ceci to help her get the perfect managerial portrait. After many attempts that fail to capture her true self, Ceci finally captures one that Barb feels is authentic.
In the subplot, Vic embraces a new health craze, obsessively drinking water. This makes him an easy target for Gregg, who manipulates him by secretly pouring more water into his bottle, convincing Vic he's not drinking enough. By the end of the episode, Vic is completely done with water for the foreseeable future.
Review: A Simple Story, Done Right
"Easy Pass" was a solid, funny episode, filled with hilarious character moments. Vic's push of the water trend to the extreme, coupled with Gregg's subtle mind games, was a great source of humor. Colette, in her chaotic, caring nature, did everything she could to support Noa, even if it pushed her to her breaking point.
The simple, secondary storyline about Barb trying to get the perfect managerial photo for the wall, alongside Ceci, truly stole the show and was a great piece of character development for both. The episode was both fun and comedic, further solidifying the core ensemble's chemistry. Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.
What did you think of this week's episode of DMV? Did Colette make the right choice in failing Noa, or should she have trusted his dune-buggy experience? Leave a comment.
