One Chicago Recap: Chicago Med "What's Hiding in the Dark"/Chicago Fire "Ghosts"/Chicago P.D. "Miami:

Here's a recap and review of this week's episodes of One Chicago.

Chicago Med "What's Hiding in the Dark"

From a mix of spooky ambiance to profound emotional and dramatic moments, this week's episode of Chicago Med certainly didn't disappoint.

The tension started immediately with Archer and Asher's ultrasound appointment, which went from nervous to overwhelmingly anxious. Dean completely overstepped with Hannah regarding her pregnancy, and his reaction to the whole situation was clearly pushing her buttons.

Lenox and Asher teamed up when a teenager was rushed in. The shocking discovery was that the teen had recently been pregnant—but where was the baby? The girl denied knowing what they were talking about, and even bringing in Intelligence's Burgess didn't lead to a breakthrough. It was only when the teen was rushed to surgery with a life-threatening bleed that she confessed to burying the baby, which was later confirmed to have been a stillborn.

In her personal life, Lenox learned her brother is in a healthy relationship and plans to propose to his new girlfriend, though she declined the engagement ring her mother was holding onto for him. She was happy to see him turn over a new leaf, and he, in turn, expressed pride in what she's been doing with her life.

It was Charles's birthday, and his friends intended to take him out. However, a case intervened: a child who suffered a bleed from a fall. The child was deeply disturbed, believing Charles to be a demon. After consulting with the child's foster parents, Charles found a simple solution: a special pair of glasses that helped the child see better. This not only corrected the distortion but also allowed the child to open up about the physical abuse suffered at the hands of his biological parents.

Goodwin tried to enjoy a nice breakfast with Burt, but the moment was shattered when he suddenly and uncharacteristically yelled at her. This disturbed her deeply, as he had never once raised his voice during their relationship. Later on, she received a frantic call from an assistant that Burt had fallen and hit his head. When she arrived, paramedics were already working on him. The question looms heavily over the ED: Is this the end of Burt?

"What's Hiding in the Dark" was a solid, occasionally spooky episode, featuring a few creepy moments, including a ghost haunting an ED room after a patient's death. The scene involving the child Charles and Ripley treated was particularly captivating, especially his drawings of what he perceived as a "demon" Dr. Charles.

The episode showcased some excellent cases, and it was a welcome surprise to see a character from One Chicago, like Burgess, appear in Med—it's about time we got a broader view of the entire surroundings. Ripley's personal relationship is progressing nicely, and I look forward to seeing more of that, though the co-parenting relationship between Hannah and Dean still clearly needs improvement. Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.

Chicago Fire "Ghosts"

When 51 responds to a severe apartment fire, Cruz makes a life-saving rescue. Afterward, he realizes a crucial detail: someone unseen had helped him. No one else was inside the building, and neither Violet nor Novak saw the helpful person. Cruz becomes obsessed with finding this mystery man to thank him, only to hit a dead end. Violet eventually discovers that the man who lived in that apartment and seemed to be Cruz's helper actually died three years ago. Was Cruz helped by a ghost?

Herrmann has been moving at top speed trying to find a new place for his family, but Cindy confesses that she's simply not ready to rush the process of finding a new home. Of course, Herrmann finds out that Mouch has organized a surprise "Passing the Hat" party at Molly's for the Herrmann family, which he initially doesn't like but reluctantly allows. When Herrmann returns to Molly's to grab some glasses later, he sees and overhears Mouch giving a deeply heartfelt speech about him—a moment that immediately brings the tissues.

Meanwhile, 51 gets a call from a factory with highly hazardous chemicals. During the rescue, a victim is knocked unconscious, and the chemicals also affect Stella as she attempts the rescue. This scary moment prompts Stella and Vasquez to discuss why his father had called the firehouse earlier. This encourages Vasquez to speak with his father, and this time, he's determined to continue his investigation, searching for an address that could help free his dad.

"Ghosts" was a great episode from start to finish, successfully tapping into some spooky, Halloween-season vibes with the mystery of Cruz being helped by a ghost. That was a really cool and unique twist.

The episode expertly handled Herrmann's storyline: we all know Herrmann is a "go-go-go" guy who wants quick solutions, so his attempt to slow down so Cindy can process their loss was perfectly in character. The underlying message is clear: it's only been a week, and he needs to take a breath. And that speech Mouch gave at the end of the episode was truly emotional; it absolutely had me grabbing tissues. The bond between these two is one-of-a-kind. Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.

Chicago P.D. "Miami"

When a real estate building is bombed, Atwater, Fox, and the Intelligence Unit race against time to hunt down the suspect before another device is detonated. While questioning witnesses, they find a clue that leads them back to a familiar face who must be asked again, as they were close to the bomber.

Once the team identifies the bomber, they find his manifesto at his place. It asks his friend, who helped record his videos, to assist the Intelligence in finding him. This leads them to locate their suspect at another building, where Atwater and Fox take the bomber into custody.

The drama didn't end with the arrest. After being discharged from Med for a gunshot wound sustained from the suspect, Fox and Atwater go back to his place. What starts as a casual drink quickly turns into a one-night stand. Fox leaves before Atwater wakes up, leaving a note inviting him to visit Miami anytime, as she is moving there for better police work.

The episode also gave a nice update on Valerie: she has taken a new position in New York City (working for 26 Fed, which is an excellent callback to the FBI!).

"Miami" was a solid episode from start to finish. The dynamic between Atwater and Fox was fun and playful, yet tested during the high-stakes case, forcing Atwater to question her reliability during a suspect chase.

The unexpected personal twist with Fox was a bold move, giving her character a clear exit while hinting at future possibilities. And the clever reference to Valerie's move to New York was a nice touch, winking at the shared universe. Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.

What do you think will happen to Burt? Would you have enjoyed seeing the ghost helper storyline extended? What did you think of the sudden ending for Atwater and Fox? And do we see Fox again? Leave a comment.

You can catch One Chicago Wednesdays at 8/7c on NBC and streaming the next day on Peacock.
