Recap: FBI "Falsetto"

When a father is murdered in broad daylight, the FBI tracks leads that point toward someone operating from a position of immense power. Here's my recap and review of FBI "Falsetto."

In this week's episode of FBI, Maggie and Eva take the lead on the case, as their partners are both temporarily sidelined (one on a family visit, the other healing from the previous episode). The two women team up for the first time to investigate the murder of the husband and father. When they learn what the victim did for a living, they interview a client who backed away due to safety fears, but the lead proves to be a dead end.

Jubel's team tracks a suspect seen on camera before the murder, only to discover she supposedly died years earlier. Tracing her phone leads them to an audition, where the suspect opens fire on Maggie and escapes, leaving behind a broken phone. The FBI uses high-tech tools to repair it, enabling Maggie and Eva to track her to her employer: a prince, soon to be king, who is heavily involved in sex trafficking.

Isobel receives a visit from Anna, who advises summoning the Prince rather than arresting him. However, the FBI proceeds with a risky rescue mission for the girls held captive by the Prince. The rescue goes well until Maggie and Eva are pinned down by bodyguards. After rescuing the girls, they attempt to save one last captive held by the Prince, who has been tipped off by Anna. As the Prince drops his gun, he is suddenly shot and killed from behind by the captive girl using a CIA gun. The team wonders: Who gave the gun to her? Isobel immediately questions Anna, who notes that a princess, rather than her evil brother, will now take over the throne.

"Falsetto" was another exciting case of the week, perfectly showcasing Maggie and Eva coming together as a formidable team. It’s terrific to see two women confidently taking charge, especially the newcomer Eva, who learns from Maggie the importance of opening up and relaxing a bit.

I'm really liking Anna after this episode; she has the makings of a fantastic new leader in the CIA hierarchy. She’s strict, disciplined, and entertaining in her shady manipulations. The episode was high-stakes and kept the ethical boundaries blurring right up to the final, shocking shot. Overall, I give this episode an 8.5/10.

What did you think of the twist ending? Do you believe Anna's motives were purely geopolitical, or was she protecting the captive girl? And are you getting sick of hearing the name Istombol a lot this season? Every time I hear the name, I think of FBI: International. Let me know in the comments section.

You can catch FBI Mondays at 9/8c on CBS and streaming the next day on Paramount+.
