Marshals (S1, Ep. 9) "In Low Places:

In "Low Places," a rescue mission was about inner demons and tactics. This week, Marshals pushed limits, trading high ground for shadows, showing that saving one sometimes means going where law won't follow. Here's my review of an hour that ended a violent feud but left the team more fractured.

Picking up in the heat of a lopsided shootout, the episode finds the Marshals outmanned and outgunned by Randall Clegg’s private militia. Recognizing the futility of a direct frontal assault, Cal orders a tactical retreat to a nearby barn to regroup. With the clock ticking for the abducted Andrea Cruz, Kayce leans into his military past, recruiting his former SEAL brother, Garrett (guest star Riley Green), to provide an "asymmetrical" advantage. Garrett identifies a forgotten underground tunnel—a literal low place—that allows the team to ghost into the heart of the compound undetected.

Inside the compound, Andrea proves she is far from a damsel in distress. While held in a "torture basement," she manages to free herself and overpower a guard, using his phone to relay critical intel before being recaptured. This window of opportunity allows the Marshals to breach the main house just as Randall Clegg attempts to livestream his "martyrdom" for his followers. In a moment of cold efficiency, Cal wings the extremist leader, taking him into custody and effectively dismantling the Clegg insurgency. The ordeal concludes with a rare moment of peace at Kayce’s East Camp; as Garrett performs a haunting rendition of his song "My Way" by the bonfire, the team tries to shake off the dust of the mission.

"In Low Places" offers a satisfying ending to the Randall Clegg storyline, ending on a note of warmth and optimism. The episode beautifully creates atmosphere, especially during the tense tunnel breach scene, drawing viewers in. The bonfire scene gently hints at a growing romantic connection between Kayce and Andrea, adding a heartfelt touch. With the external threat contained, the story now turns inward, focusing on Cal’s health and the emotional impact of the Dutton legacy—a true "rescue and recovery" episode that highlights thrilling stakes and introduces Riley Green’s Garrett in a meaningful way. Though the resolution to Clegg's threat felt a bit quick, the episode’s depth came from its powerful character moments and emotional weight.

Andrea's rescue showcased her resilience, reminding us of each team member's strength. Luke Grimes excels as Kayce, with his belief that Andrea's attack results from his family’s feud adding Shakespearean depth. Logan Marshall-Green captures Cal’s deteriorating health and his secret-kept urgency, creating tension among team leaders.

Overall, I give this episode a 7/10.
