Chicago Fire to Say Goodbye to Original Cast Member Joe Minoso in Season 15

Firehouse 51 is losing one of its longest-serving firefighters.

Deadline reported on Wednesday, Joe Minoso, who has portrayed firefighter Joe Cruz since the very first season of NBC's Chicago Fire, will depart the series during Season 15. Minoso is expected to appear in the opening episodes of the new season before wrapping up Cruz's storyline. NBC has not officially commented on the report.

Minoso debuted in the series pilot as a recurring character before being promoted to series regular in Season 2. His departure leaves Taylor Kinney, David Eigenberg, and Christian Stolte as the only remaining original cast members.

The news comes just days after NBC announced that former All American star Da'Vinchi will join the cast as new firefighter candidate Marcus Burke. Season 15 also marks a new era behind the scenes with Victor Teran taking over as showrunner following Andrea Newman's departure.

The Season 14 finale left Cruz and several members of Firehouse 51 trapped inside a burning building, though Minoso's expected return suggests Cruz survives the cliffhanger. Instead, the series will likely give the beloved firefighter a proper farewell, potentially setting the stage for a future guest appearance.

Chicago Fire returns Wednesday, October 7, on NBC.

What do you think of Joe Cruz leaving Firehouse 51? Will you miss seeing Joe Minoso on the series? Let me know in the comments.
