Alice and Catherine have spent the season chasing different versions of justice, but now their paths are finally about to collide.
Furious keeps cranking up the psychological pressure in Episode 5, “Pick a Sticker,” and it’s easily one of the most disturbing, character-heavy episodes so far. Catherine commits her most brutal murder yet, while Alice is forced to deal with the trauma that keeps shaping both her life and her investigation.
Catherine’s storyline takes a darker turn as she keeps Hal captive at Alden’s place. What starts as an interrogation slowly turns into a really unsettling look at guilt and complicity. Hal admits he knew about Jay Easton’s abuse and spent years collecting evidence without actually stepping in. Catherine sees that inaction as just as bad as the abuse itself, and decides he’s guilty too. Her choice to kill him really shows how she views justice—she’s not just going after “monsters,” she’s deciding who deserves to live on her own terms.
Lola Petticrew keeps adding new layers to Catherine. There’s still clearly a deeply hurt woman underneath all the violence, especially when she talks about Isabel, but her trauma has twisted her sense of justice into something a lot more dangerous. Her relationship with Alden also adds an interesting angle, because for maybe the first time, Catherine is experiencing something close to a normal connection while hiding a huge secret.
Meanwhile, Alice refuses to be pushed off the case. Emmy Rossum brings a lot of emotional weight as Alice digs into the Jane Doe case tied to Isabel and starts uncovering evidence that Nora may have covered something up years ago. Her confrontation with Marshall stands out too—rather than just reacting to his manipulation, she turns it back on him and uses his arrogance and behavior against him.
What makes Alice and Catherine so compelling is how much they mirror each other. Both are deeply damaged by the people around them, and both are desperate to take back control of their lives. The difference is that Alice is still trying to work within the system, while Catherine has completely walked away from it. Alice wants justice; Catherine wants revenge. And the closer Alice gets to Catherine, the more those lines start to blur.
The episode saves its best moment for the end. After connecting Isabel’s hospital bracelet to a Safe Surrender facility, Alice shows up to investigate—and unknowingly ends up sitting back-to-back with Catherine. After spending the whole season circling the same trauma from opposite sides, the two of them are finally in the same room.
It’s a great cliffhanger that sets up a must-watch finale. Furious continues to balance its dark subject matter with strong character work, and with Alice and Catherine now on a collision course, the ending has a lot to live up to. Overall, I give this week's episode a 9/10.
