Lioness Season 3 Premiere Review: A Thrilling Return That Raises the Stakes

If the Season 3 premiere is any indication, Lioness isn't slowing down, it might be bigger, bolder, and more intense than ever. Here's my review of the season premiere.

Paramount+'s Lioness wastes little time reminding viewers why it's become one of television's most entertaining action thrillers. The Season 3 premiere, "The Spider and the Fly," delivers explosive action, high tension, and a cliffhanger that immediately sets the tone for what's ahead.

The episode opens with a shocking flash-forward as Joe (Zoe Saldaña) is ambushed and kidnapped in broad daylight, before jumping back six months to reveal how everything unraveled. The mission takes Joe and the Lioness team to the front lines of Ukraine, where they hunt a high-value Russian intelligence target in one of the series' most ambitious action sequences to date.

The military operation is packed with intense firefights, impressive visual effects, and one unforgettable addition: the tactical K9 unit. The dogs nearly steal the entire episode, fearlessly taking down enemy forces and becoming the unexpected MVPs of the mission. It's a thrilling sequence that showcases the series' commitment to delivering cinematic action on the small screen.

As always, Zoe Saldaña is outstanding. She effortlessly balances Joe's command on the battlefield with the emotional strain of trying to protect her family back home. That contrast becomes even more effective when the episode shifts from the war zone to a terrifying home invasion, proving that nowhere is truly safe.

The premiere starts at a measured pace before completely pulling the rug out from under viewers, delivering a finale that raises the stakes for both Joe and the entire Lioness team.Lioness is back in top form, and if this premiere is any indication, Season 3 is shaping up to be its most exciting yet. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

If you've been on the fence about Lioness, this premiere is a strong reminder of what the series does best. It's packed with gripping action, strong performances, and enough suspense to leave you eager for next week's episode.
