Darkwing Duck Is Getting a Disney+ Reboot With Mark Hamill as the Voice of the Hero

Looks like Disney+ is getting dangerous! 

Disney+ is bringing Darkwing Duck back for a new generation, with Mark Hamill set to voice the iconic crime-fighting duck Drake Mallard. The new animated series comes from Sean Tretta (Star Trek: Picard) and Borja Peña Gorostegui (Lost & Crowned), who will executive produce, while original Darkwing Duck creator Tad Stones is consulting on the new adventures.

This isn't simply another retelling of Darkwing's origin story. The new series picks up decades after the original adventures, with Darkwing having spent 35 years trapped in an alternate world where nobody knows about his superhero past. His life changes when Duckie, a rebellious teenager who knows all about his legendary exploits, finds him and pulls him back into the world of crime-fighting. The unlikely pair will face familiar villains including Negaduck and Megavolt while reconnecting with allies such as Launchpad McQuack, Gosalyn, and Morgana. The voice cast also includes Seth Rogen as Launchpad, Lizzy Caplan as Gosalyn, Lilimar as Duckie, Dan Stevens as Glade McTowers, and Kathryn Newton as Firecracker.

A return to the Darkwing Duck universe has been in development since 2020, but this version sounds like it's using the character's history as a launching point for something new. Stones says the creative team has embraced the original's action and comedy while maintaining its Disney heart. With Hamill leading the voice cast and a story built around an older Darkwing being pulled back into the spotlight by a new generation, this could be a fun way to introduce the masked mallard to longtime fans and newcomers alike. After 35 years, Darkwing Duck is ready to get dangerous again.
