Eternally Yours Season 1, Episode 3 Review: “The Mistake” Turns a Vampire Gathering Into a Family Reunion

Max’s vampire initiation takes a hilarious turn in Eternally Yours when uncontrolled telepathy, buried family secrets, and a disastrous party threaten to spoil the celebration.

Eternally Yours delivers another enjoyable episode with “The Mistake,” turning Max’s official welcome to the vampire coven into a chaotic family reunion. Between an accidental telepathic confession, a revelation about Jesse’s past, and Charles trying to control the party, the episode finds plenty of comedy while exploring what makes a family—and a relationship—work.

As Max settles into his new life as a vampire, he discovers that he has developed telepathy. Unfortunately, he has little control over it, causing his private thoughts to become public at the worst possible moments. The ability drives the episode’s central chaos when a guest from the past threatens to expose a secret that could change Jesse’s understanding of his own existence.

The biggest revelation comes through a flashback to the Wild West, when Liz admits that she never intended to turn Jesse into a vampire. She meant to kill him but accidentally left him with just enough blood to survive as one. When Aldricht recognizes Liz and Max panics, his uncontrolled telepathy broadcasts the truth to the entire gathering. Jesse is understandably devastated to learn that becoming a vampire was never part of Liz’s plan.

The episode gives Jesse an emotional storyline without losing its comedic tone. His hurt is understandable, particularly when he realizes that Max is receiving the initiation ceremony he never had. Fortunately, Liz makes amends by turning the celebration into a joint initiation. Max helps Jesse feel included, and Jesse earns the nickname “Jesse the Iceman” thanks to his love of Top Gun and enthusiasm for large ice blocks. It’s a sweet resolution that reinforces the idea that belonging to a family is about more than how you came into it.

Charles provides some of the funniest moments as he attempts to manage the party. His rivalry with a guest who refuses to remove her boots becomes an amusing running gag, especially when the reason for her reluctance comes to light. The subplot turns a petty disagreement into another example of the ridiculous situations these vampires encounter.

The party ends with one more disaster when Phyllis returns early from her spa weekend after contracting the bubonic plague. Max accidentally caused the outbreak by blowing dust off one of Charles’s ancient vampire books, prompting Charles to abandon the festivities and care for her. It’s a suitably absurd conclusion to the gathering.

Meanwhile, Emma and Max discuss the pace of their relationship. Emma accepts that they’re moving forward together, even though spending eternity with someone she has dated for only six weeks is understandably terrifying. The scene acknowledges the absurdity of their situation while still treating their feelings seriously.

“The Mistake” balances supernatural silliness with genuine emotional moments. Max’s telepathy creates the episode’s chaos, Jesse’s story adds depth, and Charles’s party-management struggles deliver strong comedy. The joint initiation turns an awkward family secret into an opportunity for reconciliation, while Emma and Max’s conversation gives their unusual relationship a grounded emotional center.

Between vampire family drama, ancient-book mishaps, and the challenges of eternal commitment, Eternally Yours remains a fun supernatural comedy with plenty of personality. Overall, I give this episode a 7/10.
