What happens when your boyfriend discovers your family secret—and becomes one of the undead?
CBS’s newest comedy gives the familiar family sitcom a supernatural makeover, mixing the quirky charm of Ghosts with a little Bewitched nostalgia. After one episode, I’m already curious to see where Eternally Yours goes next.
The series opens 500 years ago, when Charles (Ed Weeks) turns Liz (Allegra Edwards) into a vampire and the two promise to love each other forever. In present-day Seattle, however, their immortal romance has become a loveless marriage filled with arguments and counseling sessions. Apparently, eternity isn't quite as romantic as it sounds.
Their daughter, Emma (Helen J. Shen), has her own relationship problems. She's secretly dating Max (Jaren Lewison), a human who wants a future with her but can't understand why she's so determined to keep him away from her family. Emma is simply trying to protect him from her dangerous supernatural relatives.
The family-sitcom setup is fun, but the premiere's biggest surprise comes at the end. After Max discovers the truth about Emma's family, he's accidentally killed. Charles turns him into a vampire to save his life, completely changing the series' direction.
Instead of watching Max struggle as a human among his supernatural in-laws, we now see him join their undead world. It's an unexpected twist that gives the show a more interesting path forward.
The cast is enjoyable, and the supernatural premise offers plenty of comedic potential. Some of the family dynamics feel familiar, but the premiere balances its quirky humor with enough relationship drama to keep things entertaining.
Eternally Yours is a fun, promising start with a likable cast and a twist that caught my attention. It still has room to develop its own identity, but I'm looking forward to seeing what happens now that Max is officially part of the vampire family. Overall, I give the series premiere a 7.5/10.
Have you watched Eternally Yours? What did you think of that ending? Let me know in the comments!
