NBC Pulled Off Powerless

Well it looks like NBC has pulled the plug on Powerless.

On Tuesday, the superhero-adjacent comedy has been pulled from the Peacock Network's Thursday night schedule, which in short terms means that it's good as cancelled. It'll be pulled off this week, with Superstore shifting into it's time slot 8:30/7:30c with reruns airing at 8/7c for the next two weeks.

Powerless, starring Vanessa Hudgens as the research director at a security company that protects average citizens from the superhero battles raging all around. The cast also includes Alan Tudyk, Danny Pudi (Community), Ron Funches (Undateable) and Christina Kirk (A to Z).

The series has been struggling in the ratings since it's February debut. Last week's episode pulled a 2.1 million total viewers and a 0.6 demo rating, which is a 30 percent drop from it's Superstore lead-in.

Two episodes of the show's original 13 episode order still have yet to air and that includes the one guest spot from TV's original Batman, Adam West. It's unclear when or if those those episodes will air.

This really puts a damper on my day after hearing about this news. I've enjoyed watching Powerless and thought that it was a good show. I thought Vanessa Hudgens brilliantly funny and last week really proved it. I hope there might be an 11th hour decision to bring it back and maybe go back to the original idea of the show and maybe spin it off in like an Earth One or Earth Two concept. That would be very cool to pull off.

Retreat at Truth Island: Powerless "Emergency Punch-Up"

This week's episode of Powerless might have been one of it's best.

When the Emily and the team are about to leave for a much needed company group retreat, the supervillian Dr. Psycho releases a toxic gas in Charm City, making the team stuck in the office. But Emily tries her best to make the situation not so terrible by bring the retreat to the office.

Emily serves drinks and even party games, one of the games asked one of each who they would be trapped in a deserted island with: Wendy picked Van, Jackie picked herself but later on picked Ron, Teddy was shocked that Ron didn't pick him because they're best buddies.

Soon when Teddy took the challenge of throwing one of the fake tiki torches to the trash can but missed, hit the window cracking it and letting the gas in which they had to run into next room where they were secured but had no gas mask as they were in the other room surrounded by gas.

Emily goes out there trying to get them, because well, she's the mother of the group she has to do it. Wearing hazmat bags and a bucket helmet (that was used as the bathroom bucket) used as a complete hazmat shit, but gets caught in the gas.

The gas is known as a truth gas and well, the truth really came down from Emily and everyone heard the truth about it..everyone. Emily let them know how she feels that she never gets a thank you from either one of them and how they're like children.

But after Ron goes out there trying to get Emily back in the other room, they do the one thing that they don't want to but Emily has been wanting to do for the retreat: karaoke. They performed Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" which was very good as everyone started and Emily ends it on top and fants after. The next day or after the retreat was over, Emily was back to normal and had no clue what had happen to her but in the end, everyone thank her for all that she has done for them since joining the team.

"Emergency Punch-Up" was literally one of the best episode of the show so far. Not only was this the best ensemble performance from it's cast but Vanessa Hudgens gave her best so far this season. She was just brilliantly hilarious. There was a lot of memorable moments in this episode like the History of Supervillian bit and Dorothy spoiling the ending to Ron, Van's gang of comedy writers even when Emily drops the truth bombs on the gang was great and the karaoke too.  Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch Powerless Thursday nights at 8:30/7:30c on NBC.

It's Never Easy Being a Green Superhero: Powerless "Green Furious"

When Emily goes to her first board meeting, she speaks out about her product that's about to get the ax and gets the latest superhero to sponsor it.

In "Green Furious" Emily gets invited to her first board meeting, but when she speaks up about her product that's about to get the ax, she tells them that she can get Green Fury to sponsor the product. The head of the board agrees after Green Fury came after Emily used the Green Call Button that she got after saving her during the cold open.

Emily thinks that having Green Fury do the commercial would help not only her but Fury as well after the newspaper headlines really attacking her over the breakup of her and The Olympian. Heck, they were even together on the front page at the latest super couple in Charm City.

Things were looking great for Emily but when filming day came, her idea took a different turn than what she wanted as the creative team thought of more sex to the screen. After telling Green Fury about it, Emily stands up soon comes up with a better commercial ad this time with The Olympian naked and covered in bubbles while washing the car. Green Fury comes and gives him the product that protects anyone from lasers and fire. It tested positive with the focus groups of females 18-49.

Also Teddy tries to get another try at asking Green Fury out. He asked everyone of their opinion of a leather jacket and even wore a sweater that said he's a feminist and eye liner.

And not to mention, Jackie gets jealous of how her daughter and Wendy get along and even told her why she was in a fight with a kid. She got so jealous that she was going to give her kid to Wendy but she finally learned why and it was because that kid was making fun of Jackie.

I thought that this was a good episode. I thought that Hudgens and Morales were great together in this episode. The Wendy and Jackie story was pretty good, not my favorite favorite but it was good to say the least. I couldn't get enough of Teddy and his crush on Green Fury. The writing on this was pretty good, I would say the memorable moments would be Emily/Fury and Teddy putting on eye liner and asking Fury out. Overall, I give this episode a 7/10.

You can catch Powerless Thursday nights at 8:30/7:30c on NBC.

Fight for Office Justice: Powerless "Van v. Emily: Dawn of Justice"

It's a battle for the office, who'll win in this great battle between Emily and Van?

When Emily ask Van to move from the cubical office to a real office, Van denies her. But when she get the Corp's approval, its game on on who gets the office. Emily challenges Van to the Green Arrow archer game for the office, but before the game could begin, Jackie, Teddy, Ron and Wendy explain to her why he should win instead of her, mostly because he'll act like a big baby.

When the game begins, Emily pretends to lose the match until Van really got to her and showed off how good she really is. But after a quick time out, Emily shows off one more time and with heavy confidence she actually misses and loses the match against Van, but instead of just losing big time, Van gave everyone new chairs, donuts and even Emily's office as well.

Emily didn't take losing at all and tries to come clean to Van after looking through his childhood trophies that his family has been babying him his whole life. After the truth bomb, she apologies for her actions and the two made up.

Meanwhile, Teddy builds a super crush on the newest superhero in town, Green Fury. He tries to get her attention by falling off the roof again, but gets picked up by the Olympian. Tries to use the Green Fury signal like Batman but that didn't work at all until  he was walking with his girlfriend, Hannah and gets her purse stolen that Green Fury came and stopped the robber. Teddy makes a fool of himself to both Hannah and Fury.

"Van v Emily: Dawn of Justice" was another good episode between Emily and Van, maybe not top of the list so far but it's there along with the others. Hudgens and Tudyk really show comedy chemistry and not to mention Danny Pudi's character falling in love with Green Fury played by Natalie Morales, who plays the superhero very well. The writing was good, it could have been a little better but it had some memorable moments. Overall, I give this episode a 7/10.

Friends in Stinky Places: Powerless "I'm a Friend You"

With no superhero to protect the city of Charm City, Emily tries getting Jackie to join her in self defense classes.

When word that the Crimson Fox was leaving Charm City, Emily thought that her and Jackie should take some self defense classes. But when Jackie doesn't show up to the first class, Emily learns that she's become an uber driver.

Emily tries to figure why Jackie is an uber driver and as they call it "Emilyed" in the way. She thought it was money and gets everyone to chip in and hand it to Jackie's daughter's class for their field trip to Six Flags but that wasn't the truth and got a nasty suggestion from one of the kids. Emily so desperately tries to get Jackie to spell what she's been doing  and after getting hit by Jack-O-Lantern's fireball, she finally tells Emily why: she's taking night classes.

Meanwhile, Van spotted a nice surprise in his bathroom and goes Law & Order on who pooped in his toilet. There were many memorable moments like when Van tries to get his oldest employee to confess and he tells her that she might have turder she wrote or Law & Order BM. As much as I enjoy hearing poop jokes, this was both funny and stupid at the same time.

Van pulls Teddy, Ron and Wendy and tries to get them to confess but none of them do and after trying to pull a Spartacus on Van, Van gets an email of the security video of who might have done it and it turns out that it was only a bee that Jackie had killed earlier and didn't realize.

I thought that "I'm a Friend You" was a very good episode that played to Emily's most frequent characteristic, trying to be close friends. I do love the chemistry between Hudgens and Kirk again in this episode. Also Tudyk was funny at times too. The writing was pretty good with memorable moments. I give this episode 7.5/10.

You can catch Powerless Thursday nights at 8:30/7:30c on NBC.

Motivation with Heart: Powerless "Cold Season"

When Emily sees Teddy's new invention, she tries to motivate him by entering him in the company's contest. But motivation isn't what she got out of him.

When Emily sees that Teddy has a new invention to help during the cold season (a season of when ice power super villains come around and freeze everything), she thinks that it would be a great invention to enter into the Wayne Innovation contest.

At first Teddy doesn't think he should and bails out, but Emily pushes his buttons and gets him to improve it, but he freaks out when the popcorn bag didn't pop all the kernels. Emily gets teased from another group of guys from another division and makes her enter Teddy's invention. She tells him about it but only that his invention got into the finals. Full of excitement, Teddy brings his family (mother, father and successful brother who happens to be a space doctor) over to tell them about the contest, but Emily comes over with word that he lost and let's just say Teddy doesn't take it very well and goes crazy.

Emily tries to cheer him up by showing the invention that won (not helping at all!). They both talk it out and Emily admits that she wanted to do it for her but also to get everyone on the team spirits up. She tries to tell him that her sister is a successful one (a dog walker)  but that really didn't help at all until the Crimson Fox shows up and protected them from Frostbite. With everything frozen expect for Emily and Teddy, he uses the heat gloves to thaw Fox out.The two made up their differences and I believe their friendship has gotten stronger as well. And also the Crimson Fox takes the gloves and ended the cold season for Charm City.

Meanwhile during the episode, Van tries to get someone to put a toy car together for a kid, because he's dating her mother. He gets Ron to do it, even though he doesn't and wants to have fun during cold season, but Van keeps pushing him to build the invisible plane for the girl and even asked for more. After pushing Ron's buttons, he tells Van no more and hangs up on him. But he apologizes and after listening to Van's story about his father and the tree house, Ron got right a way on making the blue prints thinking that it was for Van but it was for his girlfriend's daughter.

I really enjoyed this episode, mostly watching Vanessa Hudgens and Danny Pudi is just amazing and funny. Probably the two scenes I loved the most was when Emily and Teddy tested the heat gloves on the frozen car door and with the bag of popcorn. Also the scene when they were outside thawing out Crimson Fox. The second story plot was pretty good too, it wasn't a whole lot to grab on or remember it later on. The writing was pretty good a lot of funny moments, including the cold open was a good one about Cold Season. Overall, I give it a 8.5/10.

You can catch Powerless Thursdays at 8:30/7:30c on NBC.

Powerless "Emily Dates A Henchman"

When Emily is invited to her ex-boyfriend's wedding, she opens up and sets her sights on the dating world in this week's episode of Powerless.

As Emily looks upon her ex-boyfriend's social media page of photos of him and his fiance. She tries te dating world again and goes out with Wendy and Jackie. There she spots Dan, a doctor, and the two hit it off very well. Emily returns to work the next day talking about how great Dan is and how they're going to go to his boss' place for the weekend. Not knowing this, Teddy and the gang tell her that she's dating a henchman.

Just figuring it out, Emily storms out and talks with Jackie, who gives her a nice pep talk. When Dan comes up, she acts as though she caught him lying for the first time, but soon admits that he's a henchman (for the Riddler) and that his real name is Reggie. But than ties both Emily and Jackie and tries to steal Wayne Security stuff.

Meanwhile, Teddy found Batman's batarang left on a bank vault and both Ron and Teddy start to play with it. It catches Van's attention and he takes it because he knows that Batman would want it back but also he tries to get Batman to pay for the damage to his car (a broken side mirror).

Later, Teddy comes out as Ron sets out the batarang out with milk and cookie for Batman. Van appears and he's looking buff and having a cape hanging out his pants. Van has a Robin suit made cause he figures he could be Batman's sidekick even though two of the Robins have died, for which gives him more excitement. As they wait in the alley, a shadow figure comes walking through, thinking it would be Batman, but it was a robber demanding money, with no help from Robin. As soon as he leaves all three talk while Batman picks the robber up and gives back the guys money and takes the batarang away in a fast pace.

As soon as Reggie was told what the Riddler wanted to do with Emily and Jackie (take them to the river), Van comes in, as Robin, and scares Reggie and his guys away. As they're gone, Van tells Jackie to cut him out of his rubber suit and tells Emily to get a date.

"Emily Dates a Henchman" has one of the simplest titles out there. I really enjoyed this episode both Emily's story and Teddy, Ron and Van's story too. I think that this episode could be it's best since it's premiere and we're only in to three episodes, I know. There wasn't one player that stood out, it was mainly a great ensemble performance from the cast. The writing was very good. I couldn't get enough of Teddy, Ron and Van talking about Batman (because I, too, am a Batman fan). Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch Powerless Thursday nights at 8:30/7:30c on NBC. The show will return in two weekson March 9th.

Who's Da Boss? Powerless "Sinking Day"

With profits at Wayne Security performing well, who's to take the credit: Emily or Van?

When Van ask Emily to look at a report about the company's profit, things were looking amazing. To Van: he's excited and takes credit as to Emily thinks that she's the one who brought profits up. The two don't see eye to eye but Emily thinks that what she does can profit better than Van's way.

When Ace Chemicals owner sees their product, to stop people from falling in and turning into evil clowns every three months, but it wasn't what the owner wanted and told them that he sent an email out with ideas of what he wanted. Emily didn't get the email but the owner explains that he sent it to Van about it and soon after Ace Chemicals leaves Wayne Security for Lexcrop.

As soon as word got out, Van's father shows up all upset and tells him he lost respect for him. Later on, Emily tries to talk to Van about the issues and use her father and his flower shop as an example. But she gives him the courage to make a call to other companies but stop short, but Emily found that Atlantis was in need of help so she called them for a meeting.

The meeting seemed to go well until they had to leave to get back to their city for Sinking Day, whatever the hell that mean. So Van tells them that he celebrates Sinking Day too and invites them along and tells them that Aquaman will be there too. Making promises that he might not seem to keep puts a stressful Emily at bay, but comes Sinking Day and everything look like the low budget of enchanted undersea dance from Back to the Future.

Emily greeted the members and things looked good. Van shows up and bring each of the three members a personal gift, fake alcohol, Brandon Frazier movie collection and two things of perfume. As the ball was rolling, Van's dad shows up and take it way from Van. Van goes to his office, playing his guitar with no pants just singing about he has daddy issues and needs a tissue. Emily gets him going once again and tells his dad that it's his business and client and to back off and so he did and the deal went smooth until I think Van went to grab the big tuna that was a mistake to have there. Later, Van and Emily sat down and started singing a song from their heart about the day.

"Sinking Day" was a good episode, mostly watching the performance between Vanessa Hudgens and Alan Tudyk was just amazing, funny and memorable. Those two have some comedy chemistry going on. The second story plot was okay, it just seemed to be like a snack story when it comes to knowing if Alex, the accountant, is The Olympian. But I really liked the short opening of the Hudgens, Pudi, Funches and Pierson talking about where we from and race as it was humorist to hear the word half Philadelphian.  The writing was good as well. Overall, I give this episode a 8.5/10.

You can catch Powerless Thursday nights at 8:30/7:30c on NBC.

Friendly Boss: Powerless "Wayne Dream Team"

Can you combine being a boss and friend with her team? Emily tries to balance it out.

This week's episode deals with when Emily and her team get word of their latest idea, the umbrella, and get the go-ahead to be made and tested. Emily tells Van that her team will finish it before the end of the week, but after they tested it out, there was a setback, and Emily wants them to work on it more. But when the Fantasy Superhero League draft is about to begin, she tries to be nice about it.

She asked Sam Greene from HR for help and caused even more trouble when she asked to block the Fantasy League website but stopped the internet, except for LinkedIn. The team decides to investigate it and try to get the internet back but figures out it was HR or Van and mess with Van's photo job that he had done.

When Sam sees it, he orders everyone to watch an anti-bullying tape for punishment. But Emily tells him he was harsh about it, but then he spills the beans about how she asked him to block the fantasy site. So she asked Sam that instead of having everyone watch the video, she'd watch it that lasted for 24 hours.

The team sees how long she has been in the room watching the video, and after she's been twitching, they pull her out of there. They calm her down and accept her as a boss but will get to know her as a friend. As they worked on their fantasy superhero league picks, she picked Crimson Fox over Batman. (I would say it was the wrong move! I never go against Batman, but since I've seen Crimson Fox in the first episode, it was a good choice.)

"Wayne Dream Team" was another hilarious episode. The writing was excellent, with such great scenes from Emily and Jackie getting breakfast/lunch or Emily trying to make a whiplash nose after Van told them how great she whipped her team into shape, which sounded awkward. Hudgens and the cast were outstanding once again, and even though it's only been the second episode, I'm placing this show in my top five favorite new comedies of the season. Even Van and Jackie's storyline about Van being cut out of the Dream Team photo was great, too.

Overall, I give this episode a 9.5/10.

You can catch Powerless Thursday nights at 8:30/7:30 on NBC.

With Great Power, Comes Great Teamwork: Powerless "Wayne or Lose" Series Premiere

It's a great concept: "It's a superhero world and we live in it."

Powerless, the first comedy from DC Comics, dives into the world where normal non-superpower people who lives with superheroes battling villains everyday and suffers from it. That's where we meet a team that tries to help those in those everyday crisis.

Emily Locke becomes the Director of Research and Development at Wayne Security to help inspire her team to come up with something new; instead of making some kind of knock off from Lexcrop or just changing a color to something that has already been made.

But when Bruce Wayne calls and tells his cousin, Van Wayne, that he's fired everyone. Emily tries her best to get inspirational with her team, but they don't seem to want to get creative now that they're fired. After a moment alone with Jackie, Van's personal assistant, talking, the idea pops that got the ball rolling from an invention that tracts someone's whereabouts before they get there.

I've really enjoyed "Wayne or Lose." The writing is amazingly strong with such interesting characters. It's fresh and it's just a different fun perspective of the normal people in a superhero world. Vanessa Hudgens really shines! Even though this is her first time at comedy, it's like she has been doing comedy for a couple of years. Plus the way her character is presented, she's gotten me motivated to do something too. The ensemble cast is amazing and brings a lot to the show. Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

You can catch Powerless Thursday nights at 8:30/7:30c on NBC.
