The new ABC series is a police procedural gem that we all need. Here are my thoughts on the premiere of High Potential.
After watching the series premiere of High Potential Tuesday night, the series was not only fun and intriguing but also a wonder to watch with Kaitlin Olson as Morgan, who works as an LAPD janitor but surprises them with her input on a case that they are trying to solve.
In this case, Morgan and Detective Karadec (played by Daniel Sunjata) work on a murder case that also turns into a missing person. But along the line, we learn about Morgan and her relationship with her older daughter, who's asking about her father, who went missing 15 years ago.
After successfully solving the case and finding the missing person, Morgan gets a job offer from the LAPD as a consultant; she takes it and asks them to help solve her daughter's missing father. So, there will be a season-long arc to solve while Morgan and the team take on other cases.
The premiere episode showed real potential (no pun intended) for the series, with laughable moments but intriguing cases and characters (mainly Olson). The way Olson's character sees things that the rest can't see is something we have all seen before in other police procedurals, from The Irrational to Columbo. But Olson, who shines so well at the beginning of the episode, brings something not over the top to understand. I literally can't wait to see more this season.
Overall, I give the series premiere a 9/10.
