When a 15-year-old cold case reopens, can Voight and ASA Chapman find the killer before another is taken? Here's a recap!
After having a rough morning, Voight and ASA Champman come on a call of an abducted and hurt woman that officers have found. While this might be new to some, this seems to be an old case Voight had worked on 15 years ago and brings up all the case files from the abductions for the team to go through and even interview the survivor.
They caught a break in the case when the victim's phone was pinged, and they tracked down until they realized that another woman had been abducted. They spotted the suspect on camera and tracked down the vehicle to where Atwater and Torres got their behinds beaten until Voight took control. Voight interviewed the suspect, but while he wasn't going to give anything up, he did mention a critical clue: he wasn't working alone on this and tried to find his boss.
Voight, Champman, and the team tracked down the last place the suspect had visited, but that place was clean. They even tried to get a warrant, but that didn't go through because there was no physical evidence. But Champman comes up with a warrant, and soon Voight not only finds the missing victim but kills the suspect who was trying to kill her.
Later, Champman and Voight talked about how the warrant she gave him was falsified, but she didn't care because she had feelings for him.
"The After" was an excellent episode. It featured another character development for Voight and even Champman. Yes, we know about his wife's passing, but we didn't realize that this case was the first that he took. For the past couple of seasons, we have seen Champman getting closer and closer to Voight and, even at the beginning of the season, trying to reason with him about his crusade of solving cases. I like the idea of someone having feelings for Voight; it's something that we don't usually see in the 12 seasons of the show, and I would be down for it if they could do it right for Voight.
Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.
