One of my favorite new shows from last season returns with a season premiere about how Alec deals with the abduction of his girlfriend. Here's a recap.
In the season premiere, we pick up from the season one finale cliffhanger of Rose, an MI6 agent who has been in a working and personal relationship with Alec, who was abducted. Moments into the premiere, after Alec helps put away a fraud, he realizes that Rose has been kidnapped, but he thinks it's not your typical kidnapping.
Alec and the team learn of Rose's past with the agency and how she was collateral damage. Alec plays a deadly game when he learns that the abductor is seeking revenge on Rose for the death of his wife and plans to blow up the British international school. Can Alec reason with someone who seeks revenge?
Alec develops a plan that gets Gavin, the abductor, to film Rose's confession on his phone to show proof. While that goes, it gives Alec and even the cops enough time to not only distract Gavin but kill him, which happened.
The relationship between Alec and Rose is on a long distance or, in this case, on hold as she leaves to continue her work and put this case behind her.
"Collateral Damage" was an excellent season premiere to open the season. It picked up the storyline from last season but might have ended Rose's relationship with Alec. This was one of my favorite new shows from last season, with the classic police procedurals mixed with sociology; how someone thinks is just brilliant. Having Jesse L. Martin in the lead makes it feel right for him to play this character.
Overall, I give this episode an 8/10.
