Let’s review this week’s episode of St. Denis Medical, which was a delightful mix of humor and heartfelt moments!
As an older patient at St. Denis is drying off, the caring staff gather to discuss what will happen next in their journey. This moment prompts Joyce to reconsider her plans and approach Alex about being her executor. While it’s a lot for Alex, she gently suggests that Joyce might want to consider Ron for the role instead. However, Ron secures the job but attempts to convince Joyce to return to Alex.
When Joyce officially names Ron as her executor, Alex discovers that there’s an executor fee involved, turning everything upside down for her. But then, the notary, who happens to be Joyce's boyfriend Sanderson, steps in and changes the course of events. Suddenly, the executor's power shifts back to Sanderson. As Ron and Alex exit the room, Alex finds all the money tucked away, including bonds and coupons from Sears. The takeaway here? It’s wise to tread carefully around Ron!
In the meantime, Bruce is quite optimistic about his health, confidently juggling over thirty medications and enjoying his freezer sauna. However, he takes a moment to reflect and discovers that one of his DNA tests indicates he has an 18 percent chance of developing Hollins disease within the next 40 years. This naturally leads Bruce to reflect deeply on his next steps, but everything shifts for him when he calls the time of death on the older patient passing away. In that moment, he watches the family transition from arguing to feeling tremendous sadness.
"You Gotta Have a Plan" is a delightful half-hour comedy combining laughter with touching moments. In this fantastic show, Matt and Serena learn from each other while forming a heartfelt bond as they support the family of an elderly patient nearing the end of life. Each scene radiates warmth and connection, featuring everything from passionate debates to the amusing moment when Matt gets accidentally hit in the face with a can of tea. Witnessing the family's shift from heated arguments to a shared, sorrowful gaze as they say goodbye to their dad is genuinely heart-wrenching, even for someone like me who has experienced something similar. The series can have that balance of humor and seriousness as a medical show that is a bit like Scrubs and The Office combined.
Overall, I give this episode a 9.5/10.
