One Chicago Recap: Chicago Med "Down in a Hole"/Chicago Fire "Too Close"/Chicago P.D. "Greater Good"

What a week it’s been on #OneChicago! Is everyone doing alright? Here's a recap of this week's episodes.

Chicago Med "Down in a Hole"

Holy Rip! This week’s episode of Chicago Med was simply incredible! It tugged at the heartstrings and brought so many emotions to the forefront until the very last moment.

Let's start with Ripley and his rescue of saving a mother and daughter trapped in a pipe well in an open field. Ripley teams up with Chicago Fire and Mouch, shadowing a Lieutenant, to help get the mother and daughter out. Both the mother and daughter are hurt, but when Mouch gets there, the mother's condition is worse than it once was, as her leg was cut from a pipe and lost more feeling, which for Ripley needs to perform an amputation.

Ripley goes down and, at Mom's request, helps get the daughter out first. Talk about emotions and humor coming in at the right time when Mom is amazed about how Ripley is. Just when pulling up the daughter, they're singing Winnie the Pooh. Ripley then performs the amputation, and just when things go well and the mother is lifted up, the tunnel that Ripley is in collapses and puts him in an air pocket for the time being.

Goodwin tells the staff that Ripley was helping the mother and daughter out of the well, but they are trapped. Charles gets down there and gives one of the most (of many) heartfelt moments in the episode when he tells Ripley how much he had meant to him. Ripley starts to lose air and is unconscious until Sully appears and tells him to wake up and that this isn't his time to die. When Ripley replies no to him, Mouch finds him and drags him out. Ripley, still unconscious, is pulled out and given CPR from the medics until Asher gets there and tells him that she loves him too, and with that Ripley wakes up.

Meanwhile, Frost gets a visit from his past, and the actress who played his mother in Nick of Time returns as she's filming a movie in which she plays a nurse. The two have a history and close connection, as she helped him during his Hollywood days when his parents were riding the gravy train of fame. The two almost kissed but Frost breaks it off and returns to work. These two had something before, right?

"Down in a Hole" has been one of the season's standout episodes (so far)! The emotions were so powerful and the humor struck the right balance, keeping me captivated. Luke Mitchell shines in this episode—I couldn’t help but think how amazing he is on this episode and just had me thinking that the show would kill him off. The Forst storyline in this episode might have played a background type of thing, but was still good and compelling, for which I can't wait to see more. Dr. Charles' talk was one of the episode's highlights along with Mitch and the mother discussing how this was an awkward meet-cute moment. And will this get Asher and Ripley back together?  I can't wait for the next episode to get here! We have to wait two weeks? Damn!

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10

Chicago Fire "Too Close"

Well, how's everyone doing after this episode? Talk about two episodes tonight that had a one-two punch. Wow!

Let's start with the good news before discussing the...you know. This week, Stella and Kelly will undergo the adoption process, starting with an apartment inspection, followed by an online interview. While things look okay for them, they have risky jobs. Kelly's interview might be the key point.

Cruz is upset with the Squad for breaking the slamigan. After Kidd and Kelly's interview, they started fixing it when Herrmann saw the video conference turn off, fearing their conversation could hurt Stella and Kelly's adoption chances. They tried to meet with the interviewer but ended up explaining why Kidd and Severide's would be great parents. Ultimately, the adoption is approved for Stella and Kelly. Yes!

Damon gets another rescue this week, but is taking some flack when one of the firefighters is upset that he told the chief about what really happened on a call that had him rescuing the owner of a store. With bad blood brewing at Hour 68, will Damon return to 51 to stay safe from those guys?

Pascal gets word that a lieutenant position is open at another house, and Mouch might be the guy for it. But Mouch wants to stick with the plan to stay at 51, and Pascal tells him that Herrmann might not like the Captain's job. Is Herrmann not wanting the Captain job? He is afraid, but I think he will go for it.

Meanwhile, Pascal is hunting for the perfect anniversary gift for his wife. After trying to look, Mouch gives him the perfect idea: a watch she has been borrowing from her sister. Later that night, 51 gets a call of an accident, just when Mouch looks at the victim, it's Pascal's wife who is suffering severe head injuries. Pascal receives the call, but when he gets to Med, she's gone. And the pain that he takes is so heartbreaking to watch, even when the 51 crew was standing behind him outside of the trauma room.

"Too Close" delivered another emotional punch alongside Med, giving us plenty of reasons to feel those heartfelt tears. Huge thanks, One Chicago! Anyway, I'm so happy to see that Kidd and Severide's adoption has gone through, and they'll probably be parents by the end of the season. Let's hope they don't go the route Casey-Dawson took years ago; that's still heartbreaking when rewatching it. If we've feared Pascal at the beginning of the season, this adds another fuel to the fire with what will be in store for him the rest of the season. I'm literally scared.

Overall, I give this episode an 8.8/10.

Chicago P.D. "Greater Good"

Hey, ASA Chapman is back! Also, in this week's episode of Chicago PD, we finally know the man who is Deputy Chief Reid.

Deputy Chief Reid calls on everyone, including Voight, to attend a meeting about reducing the territories of gang members in the area. This is until Intelligence gets involved in the shooting of a bus driver and another victim who were killed just a few blocks away. They have their suspect but needed the gun to prove it, so they go after one of the top members to gather evidence, but the guy wouldn't talk. However, when Reid receives a warrant for Voight, something Chapman couldn't obtain, the plan goes awry until they discover the suspect's location, but ends up dead from Voight.

Meanwhile, Voight has been looking into Reid and even gets Chapman involved by looking at his past history from Deitorit, only to learn that the guy has a deep trust circle of people and'll take anyone down that he had dirt on. Does that sound familiar? Voight figured out by the end that Reid was helping another big-time dealer, who had no record, who was doing business. Again, it sounds familiar, like Voight. After their talk, Voight tells Chapman about what Reid has on him and the team, and they'll work together to take down Reid. This is the perfect date for the two of them, right?

"Greater Good" was an absolutely delightful episode. Its exploration of the intriguing connection between Reid and Voight made it even more captivating. It’s clear to see what this guy can do! When Reid and Voight share a glance, they feel they’re genuinely on the same wavelength. However, it’s interesting that Voight has evolved since those earlier days. And man, I can't wait to see where and how they will take Reid down for this stuff.

Overall, I give this episode an 8.6/10.
